Marshall coach Dan D’Antoni started the following lineup: 6-6 Sr. Ryan Taylor, 6-4 Sr. Austin Loop, 6-9 So. Ajdin Penava, 6-3 Jr. Jon Elmore, and 6-3 Sr. Stevie Browning. Eastern Kentucky University, fueled by Nick Mayo’s 30 points and 10 rebounds, defeated Marshall by a score of 89-80. Easter Kentucky took a 76-60 lead with 5:21 to go in the game but Marshall launched a furious comeback and only trailed 78-75 with 2:34 remaining on the clock. Dillon Avare nailed a three point basket from the corner to lead an 11-2 to seal the victory.

The Colonels connected on 22 of 33 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 16 Marshall turnovers. Marshall shot 36.9% from the field including 12 of 36 from beyond the arc. The Thundering Herd connected on 20 of 28 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 21 Eastern Kentucky University turnovers.
Nick Mayo led Eastern Kentucky University with 30 points including three three point baskets, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Jaylen Babb-Harrison added 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Asante Gist recorded 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Isaac McGlone chipped in with 11 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Gist, McGlone, Babb-Harrison, and Avare each connected on two three point baskets.
Ryan Taylor led Marshall with 19 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Jon Elmore also scored 19 points including three three point baskets, seven assists, and three steals. 6-2 Fr. Ky’re Allison recorded 14 points including four three point baskets. Austin Loop chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds. Ajdin Penava added nine points and six rebounds.
