Lexington Christian Academy coach Nate Valentine started the following lineup: 6-6 Jr. Carter Hendricksen, 6-6 So. Kyle Rode, 6-6 Jr. Austin Hall, 6-0 Jr, Chandler Stewart, and 6-2 Sr. Nathan Harper.  Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Scott Chalk countered with 6-2 Sr. Isaiah Yeast, 6-2 So. Jared Gadd, 6-4 So. Star Ifeacho, 5-10 Jr. JaQuice Gray, and 6-2 Sr. Taveion Hollingworth.

 

One dream ends and another begins……..Lexington Christian Academy rallied from a 14 point deficit (25-11) in the second quarter to defeat Paul Laurence Dunbar 68-64 to dethrone the defending state champion and advance to the regional tourney for the first time.  This also ends the stellar career of Dunbar’s Taveion Hollingsworth who is one of the favorites for Mr. Basketball but Mr. Hollingsworth did not go quietly as he tallied 44 points tonight.

 

Lexington Christian Academy shot 46.5% from the field including five of 14 from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 23 of 25 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 12 points off eight Dunbar turnovers.  Dunbar shot 55% from the field including four of eight from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 16 of 22 free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 LCA turnovers.

 

Carter Hendricksen led LCA with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Kyle Rode also scored 23 points including 13 of 14 free throws, five rebounds, and five assists.  Nathan Harper recorded 12 points including three three point baskets and three steals.

 

Taveion Hollingsworth led Dunbar with 44 points including 13 of 16 free throws and four assists.  Isaiah Yeast added eight points, six rebounds, and two steals.
