Eastern Kentucky University coach Chrissy Roberts started the following lineup: 5-11 Jr. Abby Wright, 5-11 Fr. Bria Bass, 6-2 Jr. Madison Pierce, 5-8 Jr. A’Queen Hayes, and 5-8 So. Shay Solomon. Western Carolina coach Stephanie McCormick countered with 5-10 Sr. Julia Brown, 5-8 Jr. Raziyah Farrington, 6-2 Sr. Sherae Bonner, 5-5 Sr. Kyia Hough, and 5-7 So. Lauren LaPlant.
Eastern Kentucky held on down the stretch to earn a 62-59 road victory over Western Carolina. Eastern Kentucky shot 40.7% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 14 of 23 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 13 Western Carolina turnovers. Western Carolina shot 36.2% from the field including three of 13 from beyond the arc. They connected on 14 of 19 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored six points off 14 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Western Carolina held a 22-6 advantage in bench points but Eastern Kentucky held a 16-7 advantage in second chance points.
Abby Wright led Eastern Kentucky with 18 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and three steals. A’Queen Hayes added 14 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Shay Solomon recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds. Bria Bass added 10 points and four rebounds.
Kyia Hough and Lauren LaPlant led Western Carolina with 12 points each. 6-2 Fr. Erykah Russell added eight points and nine rebounds.
