Southwestern vs. Nelson County (Girls)

Kentucky Premier Challenge

Mercer County High School

Harrodsburg, KY

December 9, 2017

 

Southwestern coach Stephen Butcher II started the following lineup: 5-9 Jr. Kallie Sheron, 5-8 So. Kennedy Harris, 5-10 So. Regi Cundiff, 5-4 So. Jenna Wood, and 5-6 Fr. Alexa Smiddy.  Nelson County coach Troy Thomas countered with 5-10 Sr. Marly Walls, 5-11 Fr. Ella Thompson, 6-0 Sr. Loren Seely, 5-5 So. Zaria Burton, and 5-6 Fr. Amelia Hodges.

 

Southwestern trailed 26-19 at halftime but outscored Nelson County 17-8 in the third quarter on their way to a 52-47 victory.  Southwestern shot 50% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  The Warriors connected on eight of 13 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 19 Nelson County turnovers.  Nelson County shot 51.3% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cards connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 19 Southwestern turnovers.

 

Regi Cundiff led Southwestern with 16 points, five rebounds, and two steals.  Jenna Woods added 12 points on four three point baskets and recorded six steals.  Kallie Sheron recorded nine points and four rebounds.  Alexa Smiddy chipped in with seven points, four rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

 

Marly Walls led Nelson County with 25 points, four rebounds, five assists, and five steals.  Loren Seely added seven points and five rebounds.  Ella Thompson chipped in with six points, four rebounds, and two steals.
