Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey started the following lineup: 5-7 So. Taleya Todd, 5-7 Sr. Blaze Pacheco, 5-10 So. Je’Kauri McKeithen, 5-5 Sr. Bailey Vanover, and 5-6 Jr. Madison Barnard. Madison Southern coach Summer Simmons countered with 5-6 Sr. Paige Carter, 5-3 So. Aleigh Richardson, 5-8 So. Skylar Sparks, 5-1 So. Sunni Walters, and 5-3 Fr. Samantha Cornelison.
Madison Central led 39-38 after three quarters but Madison Southern rallied to defeat the Indians 54-47 in a hotly contested game between two district rivals. The score was tied nine times and there were seven lead changes in the game. Both teams were hampered with foul woes as Taleya Todd and Bailey Vanover fouled out for Madison Central and Skylar Sparks and Aleigh Richardson fouled out for Madison Southern. Free throw shooting proved to be the difference as the victorious Eagles connected on 20 of 28 while Madison Central could only manage 12 of 21 from the charity stripe.
Madison Southern shot 30.6% from the field including four of 16 from the three point line. The Eagles connected on 20 of 28 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 17 Madison Central turnovers. Madison Central shot 34.7% from the field including one of 16 from beyond the arc. The Indians connected on 12 of 21 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 17 Madison Southern turnovers.
Samantha Cornelison led Madison Southern with 18 points including nine of 10 free throws, two assists, and two steals. Sunni Walters added nine points and Skylar Sparks recorded eight points and seven rebounds. Aleigh Richardson added five points and 14 rebounds.
Bailey Vanover led Madison Central with 16 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. Je’Kauri McKeithen added eight points and 14 rebounds. Taleya Todd recorded eight points, two assists, and four steals. Madison Barnard and Blaze Pacheco each scored seven points.
