Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman started the following lineup: 6-5 Sr. Zan Payne, 6-3 Sr. TC Price. 6-7 Sr. Max Sparkman, 6-0 Sr. Keegan Bailey, and 6-1 Fr. Ben Johnson. Lexington Christian Academy coach Nate Valentine countered with 6-7 Sr. Carter Hendrickson, 6-7 Jr. Kyle Rode, 6-6 Sr. Austin Hall, 6-0 Jr. Pearce Dalton, and 6-2 Jr. Will Hacker.
Lexington Catholic defeated Lexington Christian Academy 76-73 in a thriller in overtime but it was a costly victory for the victors. Lexington Catholic’s Zan Payne was fouled in the closing seconds of regulation with the Knights trailing by two points. Payne was taken to the hospital and was later determined to have a season ending ligament damage. 5-11 Jr. Patrick Geoghegan came in the game for his first action for Payne and calmly connected in two free throws to tie the game and force overtime. Ben Johnson had a key three point basket in overtime to lead Lexington Catholic to the 76-73 victory. There were 28 lead changes and 12 lead changes in this game.
Lexington Catholic shot 48.1% from the field including 14 of 25 from the three point line. The Knights connected on 10 of 15 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored eight points off nine LCA turnovers. LCA shot 51.1% from the field including 12 of 23 from beyond the arc. The Eagles connected on 13 of 19 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored seven points off six Lexington Catholic turnovers.
Ben Johnson led Lexington Catholic with 25 points including seven three point baskets and four rebounds. Keegan Bailey added 18 points on six three point baskets and four assists. Zan Payne recorded 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals. TC Price chipped in with 11 points, four rebounds, and seven assists.
Kyle Rode led Lexington Christian Academy with 25 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, and three assists. Carter Hendrickson added 23 points including five three point baskets, eight rebounds, and two assists. Will Hacker recorded 14 points including four three point baskets and five rebounds. Austin Hall chipped in with nine points, four rebounds, and four assists.
