Model coach Wes Scarberry started the following lineup: 6-2 Jr. Malik Johnson, 6-1 Sr. Emory Cornette, 6-5 Sr. Will Freese, 5-11 Jr. Christopher Otieno, and 5-10 Jr. Adam Lewis-Durham. Madison Southern coach Shane Buttry countered with 5-11 So. Chad Fugate, 5-9 So. Hunter Buchanan, 6-1 Sr. Landen Stacy, 5-8 Sr. Tre McCreath, and 5-9 Sr. Shawn Short.
Madison Southern led 57-55 after three quarters and pulled away in the final quarter to earn an 83-71 victory over Model. Model’s Will Freese missed some valuable minutes late in the game as he went out with an injury. Madison Southern shot 48.3% from the field including four of 15 from the three point line. The Eagles connected on 21 of 25 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 12 Model turnovers. Model shot 36.7% from the field including 10 of 21 from beyond the arc. The Patriots connected on 25 of 39 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored six points off 10 Madison Southern turnovers.
Chad Fugate led Madison Southern with 27 points including four of four free throws, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Shawn Short also scored 27 points including two three point baskets, and seven rebounds. Hunter Buchanan recorded 13 points including six of six free throws, 10 rebounds, and three assists. 6-2 So. Trent Moberly chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds.
Adam Lewis-Durham led Model with 26 points including six three point baskets and three rebounds. Malik Johnson added 18 points including nine of 14 free throws, five rebounds, and five assists. Will Freese recorded 17 points including two three point baskets and 12 rebounds.
