Beechwood vs. Pikeville

Beechwood defeated Pikeville by a score of 21-20 in a game with a lot of drama. Beechwood led 14-6 at halftime but Pikeville rallied in the third quarter to take a 20-14 lead on a 25 yard touchdown pass from Connor Roberts to Christian Billiter and a two point conversion run by Connor Roberts. Senior defensive back John Odom got beat on the touchdown reception but more about Mr. Odom later. Beechwood regained the lead on a Cameron Hergott one yard run and a conversion kick by Colin Graman to make the score 21-20 with 9:42 left in the game. Pikeville had one last chance and they attempted to try John Odom again but he out jumped Christian Billiter and came down with the interception in the end zone with 1:09 left to ensure Beechwood’s 14th Championship. Beechwood finishes the season as Class A champion and will move to Class 2A next season.
Beechwood recorded 17 first downs and 290 yards of total offense. The Tigers were penalized nine times for 65 yards and lost a fumble. Pikeville recorded 10 first downs and 308 yards of total offense. The Panthers were penalized seven times for 50 yards and had a pass intercepted.
Cameron Hergott led Beechwood’s ground game with 105 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Logan Castleman carried the ball 25 times for 101 yards. Cameron Hergott completed eight of 11 passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns. John Odom caught three passes for 13 yards. Logan Castleman added two receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown. Luke Bolger added a 24 yard touchdown reception. Logan Castleman punted once for 50 yards. Luke Bolger led the defense with four solo and three assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a seven yard loss. Blaek Shepherd added three solo and four assisted tackles. Jacob Sherron recorded three solo and two assisted tackles and John Odom intercepted a pass.
Connor Roberts led Pikeville’s ground game with 31 yards on 10 carries. Zack Roberts carried the ball nine times for 25 yards. Connor Roberts completed 10 of 15 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. Jackson Hensley caught four passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Christian Billiter added two receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown. Kyle Watkins returned one kickoff for 28 yards. Jesse Sparks led the defense with eight solo and three assisted tackles. Kaden Caudill added six solo and six assisted tackles. Connor Wright recorded seven solo and three assisted tackles. Bradyn Hunter chipped in with six solo and three assisted tackles.
