Boyd County coach Pete Fraley started the following lineup: 5-8 So. Emma Borders, 5-7 So. Harley Paynter, 5-8 Sr. Graci Borders, 5-3 Jr. Graci Opell, and 5-6 Sr. Savannah Wheeler.  Highlands coach Jaime Richey countered with 5-8 Sr. Zoie Barth, 5-7 Jr. Piper Macke, 5-10 So. Rory O’Hara, 5-4 Sr. Ashley Hayes, and 5-7 Sr. Chloe Jansen.

 

Boyd County captured the championship with a 61-59 victory over Highlands.  The game was close throughout with 10 lead changes and 11 ties.  Highland led 41-37 after three quarters but Boyd County rallied for the victory.  Savannah Wheeler and Harley Paynter had their typical big games and 5-8 So. Bailey Rucker hit four key free throws down the stretch.

 

Boyd County shot 37.5% from the field including eight of 22 from the three point line.  The Lady Lions connected on 17 of 20 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 15 Highlands turnovers.  Highlands shot 47.7% from the field including five of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Bluebirds connected on 12 of 15 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Boyd County turnovers.

 

Savannah Wheeler led Boyd County with 29 points including four three point baskets and six assists.  Wheeler was named Tourney MVP which concluded a sensational four game stretch in this tourney.  Harley Paynter added 14 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 

 

Zoie Barth led Highlands with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Piper Macke added 15 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Chloe Jansen recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
