Newport coach Rod Snapp started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. Makhi McGuire, 6-2 Jr. DaeShawn White, 6-4 Sr. Tahj Harding, 6-1 Sr. Donnie Miller, and 6-1 Jr. Kaleal Davis. University Heights coach Grant Shouse countered with 6-3 Sr. Taquan Hollowell, 6-1 Sr. Drew McGowan, 6-4 Jr. Weston Wood, 5-9 So. KJ Crump, and 6-1 Sr. KyKy Tandy.
Sizzling field goal shooting (59.6%) and three technical fouls assessed to Newport punctuated a surprisingly easy 85-59 victory for University Heights over a very talented Newport squad. University Heights shot 59.6% from the field including eight of 17 from the three point line. The Blazers connected on nine of 11 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored seven points off four Newport turnovers. Newport shot 40.7% from the field including four of 21 from beyond the arc. The Wildcats connected on seven of 12 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored five points off seven University Heights turnovers.
KyKy Tandy who was named Tournament MVP led the victors with 29 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, and five assists. KJ Crump added 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Drew McGowan recorded 14 points including four three point baskets and seven rebounds. Taquan Hollowell added 13 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.
Donnie Miller led Newport with 21 points and four assists. Tahj Harding added 15 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. 5-10 Jr. Cameron Daniels chipped in with nine points.
