Tates Creek coach Jarrod Gay Sr. started the following lineup: 6-5 So. James McKenzie, 6-2 Jr. Amari Taylor, 6-5 Sr. Deonte Edmonds, 5-10 Jr. Clon Townsend, and 6-0 So. Mikaleb Coffey. Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman countered with 6-4 Jr. Luke Wedding, 6-3 So. Ben Johnson, 6-6 Sr. Brice Scott, 6-0 Sr. Patrick Geoghegan, and 6-2 Sr. John Poulton.
Tates Creek led 39-38 after three quarters but Lexington Catholic rallied for a 52-47 victory. Lexington Catholic led 28-18 in the second quarter but Tates Creek rallied to take the lead before Lexington Catholic rallied for the victory. The score was tied three times and there were lead changes in the game. Lexington Catholic shot 51.4% from the field including zero of five from the three point line. The Knights connected on 16 of 23 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 12 points off nine Tates Creek turnovers. Tates Creek shot 38.2% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc. The Commodores connected on 18 of 21 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored seven points off six Lexington Catholic turnovers.
Ben Johnson provided the “outside” portion of Lexington Catholic’s “inside-outside” duo with 22 points including six of seven free throws. “Mr. Inside” Brice Scott added 17 points and nine rebounds.
Amari Taylor led Tates Creek with 12 points and three assists. James McKenzie added 11 points including five of six free throws and six rebounds. Clon Townsend recorded nine points including seven of eight free throws.
