Eastern Kentucky University coach A.W. Hamilton started the following lineup: 6-8 Fr. Tre King, 6-2 Jr. Kelvin Robinson, 6-9 Sr. Nick Mayo, 5-10 Jr. Dujuanta Weaver, and 6-2 Fr. Jomaru Brown. Tennessee State University coach Brian “Penny” Collins countered with 6-8 Jr. Damarri Moore, 6-5 So. Daniel Cummings, 6-8 Sr. Stokley Chaffee Jr., 5-10 Sr. Armani Chaney, and 6-3 Jr. Tripp Davis.
Tripp Davis hit a shot with 23 seconds remaining on the clock to give Tennessee State what proved to be the winning points in an 82-81 victory over Eastern Kentucky. Nick Mayo’s potential game winner at the buzzer fell short. The score was tied five times and there were six lead changes in the game. Tennessee State shot 50% from the field including five of 18 from the three point line. The Tigers connected on 15 of 17 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 15 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Easter Kentucky shot 50.9% from the field including eight of 22 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 17 of 33 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 11 Tennessee State turnovers.
6-4 Jr. Kamar McKnight led Tennessee State with 16 points. 6-1 Fr. Dave Morris added 14 points including two three point baskets. Armani Chaney recorded 11 points and four assists. Tripp Davis chipped in with 10 points. 5-10 Jr. Michael Littlejohn also recorded 10 points including two three point baskets.
Jomaru Brown led Eastern Kentucky with 24 points including three three point baskets, seven of 11 free throws, and five rebounds. Nick Mayo added 22 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots. Tre King recorded 13 points and eight rebounds.
