Northern Kentucky coach Camryn Whitaker started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Molly Glick, 5-10 Jr. Kailey Coffey, 6-2 So. Emmy Souder, 5-5 Fr. Ivy Turner, and 5-7 Fr. Carissa Garcia. (Note: Taylor Clos, Ally Niece, and Jazmyne Geist were not available tonight). Eastern Kentucky coach Samantha Williams countered with 6-1 Jr. Samari Mowbray, 6-0 Sr. Catie Kaifes, 6-2 Jr. I’Liyah Green, 5-7 Jr. De’Ayra Davis, and 5-11 Jr. Bria Bass.
Eastern Kentucky outscored Northern Kentucky 19-10 in the final quarter to earn a 69-62 victory over the Norse. There were five ties and nine lead changes in the game. Eastern Kentucky raced out to a 21-12 first quarter lead but Northern Kentucky held a 52-50 lead after three quarters. EKU held a 33-12 advantage in three point points but NKY held a 30-14 edge in free throw attempts.
Eastern Kentucky shot 45.3% from the field including 11 of 25 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 18 Northern Kentucky turnovers. Northern Kentucky shot 32.3% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc. The Norse connected on 18 of 30 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 21 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.
5-8 Sr. Shay Solomon led Eastern Kentucky with 12 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Bria Bass added nine points and four rebounds. 6-1 Fr. Anysa Jordan recorded eight points and seven rebounds. I’Liyah Green added seven points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots. De’Ayra Davis recorded seven points, three assists, and three steals. Samari Mowbray also scored seven points and 5-6 Jr. Qay Stanton chipped in with seven points and three assists.
Carissa Garcia led Northern Kentucky with 18 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Ivy Turner added 16 points, five rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Emmy Souder recorded nine points and five rebounds. Molly Glick chipped in with eight points and Kailey Coffey recorded five points and 10 rebounds. 6-3 Jr. Grayson Rose pulled down seven rebounds.
