Western Kentucky University coach Rick Stansbury started the following lineup: 6-5 Jr. Carson Williams, 6-5 Sr. Jared Savage, 6-11 So. Charles Bassey, 6-2 Jr. Taveion Hollingsworth, and 6-3 Sr. Camron Justice. Eastern Kentucky University coach AW Hamilton countered with 6-8 So. Tre King, 6-3 Sr. Ty Taylor, 6-8 Jr. Darius Hicks, 6-0 Jr. Russhard Cruicshank, and 6-2 So. Jomaru Brown.
Western Kentucky utilized their inside game to race out to an 18 point lead with 7:49 left in the game on their way to a 79-71 victory over Eastern Kentucky. The Hilltoppers held a 44-26 advantage in the paint to overcome a 41 point scoring effort by the Colonel’s Jomaru Brown. There were four ties and four lead changes in this game. Western Kentucky shot 50.9% from the field including five of 18 from the three point line. The Hilltoppers connected on 18 of 24 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 19 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 44.3% from the field including seven of 27 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 10 of 14 free throws, puled down 29 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 23 Western Kentucky turnovers.
Charles Bassey led Western Kentucky with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Carson Williams added 15 points and five assists. 6-1 Fr. Jordan Rawls recorded 14 points including two three point baskets. 6-6 Jr. Josh Anderson chipped in with 11 points including nine of 12 free throws and five steals. Taveion Hollingsworth turned in a complete performance with seven points, five rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
Jomaru Brown led Eastern Kentucky with 41 points including four three point baskets, two assists, and three steals. Brown was 16 of 28 from the field including four of 11 from beyond the arc, and five of six free throws. Ty Taylor added nine points and four rebounds. 6-9 Sr. Lachlan Anderson recorded nine points including two three point baskets and four rebounds. Darius Hicks chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.
