Florida International University coach Jeremy Ballard started the following lineup: 6-6 Sr. Devon Andrews, 6-5 Sr. Trejon Jacob, 6-9 Sr. Osasumwen Osaghae, 5-8 Jr. Tevin Brewer, and 6-1 So. Antonio Daye Jr. Eastern Kentucky University coach AW Hamilton countered with 6-8 Sr. Tre King, 6-3 Sr. Ty Taylor, 6-8 Jr. Darius Hicks, 6-0 Jr. Russhard Cruickshank, and 6-2 So. Jomaru Brown.
FIU defeated Eastern Kentucky by a score of 89-70. Eastern Kentucky trailed Florida International 68-60 in the second half but the Panthers went on a 15-2 run to take control of the game. Florida International shot 56.7% from the field including six of 21 from the three point line. The Panthers connected on 15 of 20 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 24 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 32.8% from the field including seven of 24 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 21 of 28 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 21 FIU turnovers.
Devon Andrews led Florida International University with 24 points including two three point baskets, eight rebounds, and three assists. Osaumwen Osaghae added 22 points, seven rebounds, and five blocked shots. Osaghae was eight of nine from the field and six of eight from the free throw line. 6-5 Jr. Isaiah Banks recorded 10 points and six rebounds. Antonio Daye Jr. chipped in with nine points, five assists, and four steals. Tevin Brewer added eight points including two three point baskets, four assists, and four steals
Jomaru Brown led Eastern Kentucky University with 19 points including 10 of 11 free throws, three rebounds, and two assists. Ty Taylor also scored 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Tre King recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Darius Hicks chipped in with seven points and nine rebounds.
