Paintsville vs. Pikeville

Pikeville stunned the crowd with a 43-0 victory over Paintsville to claim the championship and improve their record to 14-0 for the season. Paintsville finished their season at 11-4. The margin of the victory was the big surprise as Pikeville managed to grind out a 9-8 victory over the Tigers on September 6th at Pikeville. Today was a different story as Pikeville’s Brody Birchfield scooped up a fumble and raced 25 yards to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead 16 seconds into the game. Soph. QB Isaac McNamee, who was named MVP threw three touchdowns in the first half to stake Pikeville to a 28-0 halftime lead. The light rain failed to dampen the spirits of the Pikeville fans as the 16 seniors received ovations as they left the field late in the game.
Pikeville recorded 20 first downs and 408 yards of total offense. The Panthers were penalized 11 times for 108 yards and lost a fumble. Paintsville recorded 10 first downs and 165 yards of total offense. The Tigers were penalized 11 times for 83 yards and lost two fumbles.
Cody Raines led Pikeville’s ground game with 85 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Jackson Hensley carried the ball six times for 49 yards. Jon Collum added 44 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Isaac McNamee completed 13 of 21 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns. Zac Lockhart caught four passes for 51 yards and a touchdown. Clay Tinsley added three receptions for 66 yards. Jackson Hensley recorded two receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Tanner Hamilton kicked off seven times for a 53.3 average with four touchbacks. Peyton Boyd-Blair led the defense with four solo and one assisted tackles. Kaden Caudill added three solo and three assisted tackles. Jackson Hensley recorded four solo tackles. Brody Birchfield added three solo and two assisted tackles and scored on a 25 yard fumble recovery return. Connor Wright also recovered a fumble.
John Walker Phelps led Paintsville’s ground game with 97 yards on 15 carries. Jake Hyden carried the ball 12 times for 30 yards. Jake Hyden completed three of nine passes for 24 yards. Karsten Poe caught two passes for 17 yards. John Walker Phelps returned three kickoffs for 54 yards with a long return of 19 yards. Jaylyn Allen led the defense with seven solo tackles. Jake Hyden added five solo and two assisted tackles. Luke Hyden recorded three solo and three assisted tackles. Hunter Ousley recovered a fumble.
