Jacksonville State University coach Rick Pietri started the following lineup: 6-1 Sr. Chloe Long, 5-11 So. Yamia Johnson, 6-0 Jr. Jessie Day, 5-6 Jr. Taylor Hawks, and 5-9 Jr. Kiana Johnson. Eastern Kentucky University coach Samantha Williams countered with5-11 Jr. Bria Bass, 5-10 Fr. Maleaha Bell, 6-1 Jr. Anysa Jordan, 5-6 Jr. Qay Stanton, and 5-7 Jr. De’Ayra Davis.
Eastern Kentucky University took a 12-4 first quarter lead but it was all Jacksonville State University the rest of the way as they earned a 43-33 victory. Eastern Kentucky led for 19:37 in the first half but Jacksonville State took the 19-18 halftime lead on a shot in the closing seconds before the intermission. Jacksonville State shot 28.3% from the field including five of 24 from the three point line. The Gamecocks connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 18 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 30% from the field including one of 11 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on two of four free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 14 Jacksonville State turnovers.
Kiana Johnson led Jacksonville State with 13 points and five rebounds. Taylor Hawks added 10 points including two three point baskets and four steals. Chloe Long recorded six points, 12 rebounds, and two steals.
De’Ayra Davis led Eastern Kentucky with 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists. 6-2 Jr.I’Liyah Green added five points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots. Bria Bass recorded five points and six rebounds. 6-1 Jr. Samari Mowbray pulled down eight rebounds.
