Newport coach Rodney Snapp started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. DaeShawn White, 6-2 Sr. Kaleal Davis, 6-3 So. Robert Sanders, 5-11 Sr. Cameron Daniels, and 6-1 Jr. KeAndre Nelson.  Covington Catholic coach Scott Ruthsatz countered with 6-5 Sr. Neil Green, 6-5 Fr. Chandler Starks, 7-1 Sr. Noah Hupmann, 6-0 Sr. Grant Disken, and 6-3 Jr. Donovan Stocks.

 

Covington Catholic raced out to an 18-4 first quarter lead on their way to a 68-56 victory over Newport.  Covington Catholic shot 47.2% from the field including seven of 16 from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and committed nine turnovers.  Newport shot 39.6% from the field including seven of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on 11 of 14 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and committed 12 turnovers.

 

Grant Disken led Covington Catholic with 18 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Donovan Stocks added 12 points including two three point baskets, six rebounds, and three assists.  Neil Green recorded nine points and Noah Hupmann chipped in with eight points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocked shots.  6-4 So. Colin McHale added six points and seven rebounds.

 

DaeShawn White led Newport with 20 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Kaleal Davis added 12 points and six rebounds.  KeAndre Nelson recorded 10 points and four rebounds.  6-0 So. Evan Snapp chipped in with six points on two three point baskets.
