44th District Tournament

Madison Southern coach Allie Turley started the following lineup: 5-11 So. Macie Daniels,5-10 Sr. Aleigh Richardson, 5-9 Sr. Skylar Sparks, 5-6 So. Morgan Flannery, and 5-6 Jr. Samantha Cornelison.  Madison Central coach Brad Lovely countered with 5-10 Jr. Gretchen Hammitt, 5-9 Sr. Taleya Todd, 5-11 Sr. Jekauri McKeithen, 5-4 Fr. Eve Carter, and 5-5 Jr. Brianna Bierbaum.

 

Madison Central escaped with a 40-36 victory over Madison Southern to avenge a regular season loss to the Lady Eagles but it did not come easy.  Madison Central led 25-11 at halftime but Taleya Todd picked up her fourth foul early in the third quarter (5:44) and went to the bench.  Madison Southern rallied and trailed 29-24 after three quarters.  Madison Southern rallied to lead 33-31 with 3:24 left in the game but Madison Central fueled by Todd’s return and some late free throws came back for the hard earned victory.

 

Madison Central shot 41.4% from the field including three of seven from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 13 of 23 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and committed 18 turnovers.  Madison Southern shot 30.6% from the field including seven of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on seven of 11 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and committed 15 turnovers.

 

Taleya Todd led Madison Central with 16 points including seven of 10 free throws despite being limited to 22 minutes of play due to foul woes.  JeKauri McKeithen added 13 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Eve Carter recorded four points, two rebounds, and two assists.  Brianna Bierbaum tallied six points on two three point baskets.

 

Macie Daniels led Madison Southern with 19 points including four three point baskets, three rebounds, and two assists.  Aleigh Richardson added five points, nine rebounds, and two steals.
