9th Region Tournament Championship

Highlands coach Kevin Listerman started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Jack Delagrange, 6-3 Jr. Bryson Cody, 6-5 Jr. Luke Muller, 6-1 Sr. Hunter Ahlfed, and 6-3 Jr. Sam Vinson.  Covington Catholic coach Scott Ruthsatz countered with 6-5 Sr. Neil Green, 6-5 Fr. Chandler Starks, 7-1 Sr. Noah Hupmann, 6-1 Sr. Grant Disken, and 6-3 Jr. Donovan Stocks.

 

Joey Moser and Grant Disken hit free throws in the final minute to ensure Covington Catholic’s 59-54 over Highlands.  Covington Catholic enjoyed a double digit lead in the final quarter but had to withstand a late Highlands rally to earn the victory.  Covington Catholic shot 47.5% from the field including three of nine from the three point line.  The Colonels connected on 18 of 25 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and committed 12 turnovers.  Highlands shot 38.1% from the field including eight of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Bluebirds connected on 14 of 16 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and committed 10 turnovers.

 

Tournament MVP Neil Green led Covington Catholic with 15 points including seven of 10 free throws, 10 rebounds, and two assists.  Noah Hupmann added 12 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.  6-1 Sr. Joey Moser recorded 12 points including three three point baskets.  Chandler Starks chipped in with nine points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Grant Disken added nine points including five of six free throws, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

 

Sam Vinson led Highlands with 24 points including 12 of 12 free throws, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots, and three steals.  Hunter Ahlfed added 15 points including four three point baskets.  Luke Muller recorded seven points.
