2010 PNC/KHSAA Boys Sweet Sixteen® State Basketball Tournament

Shelby Valley coach Jason Booher started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Taylor Newsome, 6-4 Sr. Tyler Newsome, 6-6 Sr. Ashley Hatfield, 6-3 Sr. Cody Varney, and 5-10 Sr. Elisha Justice.  Ballard coach Chris Renner countered with 6-3 Sr. Keisten Jones, 6-3 Jr. Devante Parker, 6-0 Sr. Drew Hardin, 6-1 Sr. Ian Chiles, and 5-11 Sr. Tyrell Means.

 

Shelby Valley pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat Ballard by a score of 73-61.  The Wildcats led by 14 points in the second quarter but Ballard scrapped back and entered the final quarter trailing by three points; 50-47.  Shelby Valley outscored Ballard 23-14 in the final quarter to claim the championship.

 

Shelby Valley shot 41.4% from the field including four of 17 from the three point line.  The Wildcats connected on 21 of 23 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 17 Ballard turnovers.  Ballard shot 41.7% from the field including three of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Bruins connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 12 Shelby Valley turnovers.

 

Ashley Hatfield led Shelby Valley with 21 points including eight of 10 free throws, eight rebounds, five assists, three blocked shots, and three steals.  Taylor Newsome added 17 points including seven of seven free throws and nine rebounds.  Elisha Justice also recorded 17 points.  Cody Varney recorded 13 points and six rebounds.

 

Ian Chiles led Ballard with 23 points, four rebounds, three blocked shots, and four assists.  Keisten Jones added 17 points including two three point baskets.  Tyrell Means recorded 15 points and nine rebounds.
