Scott County (34-4) vs. Trinity (34-3)

 

Scott County coach Billy Hicks started the following lineup: 6-4 Sr. Tamron Manning, 6-2 Sr. Isaiah Ivey, 6-4 Sr. Josh Harris, 6-0 Jr. Quin Richardson, and 6-2 So. Trent Gilbert.  Trinity coach Mike Szabo countered with 6-4 Jr. Darryl Hicks, 6-2 Sr. Troy Saxton, 6-7 Sr. Nathan Dieudonne, 6-1 Jr. James Quick, and 6-1 Sr. Charles Foster.

 

Trinity shot a blistering 63.2% from the field in a dominating 71-53 victory over a good Scott County team.  Trinity becomes the only team in KHSAA history to capture a football and basketball championship in the same year.  Trinity shot 63.2% from the field including nine of 14 from the three point line.  The Shamrocks connected on 14 of 18 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 11 points off seven Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 48.5% from the field including four of six from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals connected on 17 of 24 free throws, pulled down 14 rebounds, and scored 13 points off nine Trinity turnovers.

 

Charles Foster led a balanced Trinity scoring attack with 18 points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.  Troy Saxton added 13 points including two three point baskets and three assists.  Darryl Hicks also scored 13 points including three three point baskets.  Nathan Dieudonne recorded 12 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocked shots.  James Quick chipped in with 10 points and three assists.

 

Tamron Manning had a great performance tonight and led Scott County with 28 points including three three point baskets, five rebounds, and three steals.  Manning was nine of 14 from the field including three of four from beyond the arc, and seven of 11 free throws.  Isaiah Ivey added 10 points including six of eight free throws.
