Ballard (32-4) vs. Madison Central (31-5) (Championship)

Ballard coach Chris Renner started the following lineup: 6-3 Fr. Malik Dow, 6-0 Sr. Lavonne Holland, 6-6 Jr. Kelan Martin, 5-9 Sr. Dontez Byrd, and 6-1 Jr. Quinten Snider.  Madison Central coach Allen Feldhaus Jr. countered with 6-4 Sr. Quan Taylor, 6-1 Sr. Daniel Parke, 6-4 Sr. Hunter Stocker, 5-11 Sr. Ken-Jah Bosley, and 6-1 Sr. Dominique Hawkins.

Madison Central trailed 41-25 midway through the third quarter but rallied for a 65-64 victory and the state championship.  Ballard led 64-60 with 26.9 seconds left in the game Dominique Hawkins scored on a layup to cut the deficit to two; 64-62 with 15 seconds left in the game.  Madison Central called a timeout and then George Walker intercepted a pass near midcourt and Ken-Jah Bosley nailed a three point basket with 5.2 seconds left on the clock to give Madison Central a 65-64 lead.  Ballard was unable to get a timeout until only 2.2 seconds remained on the clock and a last second desperation shot was short.  While the turnover set up the winning shot Ballard’s Achilles heel was from the free throw line as they only connected on 10 of 20 shots.  The score was tied six times and there were four lead changes in the game.

Madison Central shot 42.9% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 19 of 27 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 11 points off eight Ballard turnovers.  Ballard shot 44.6% from the field including four of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Bruins connected on 10 of 20 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 15 points off nine Madison Central turnovers.

Dominique Hawkins led Madison Central with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  Ken-Jah Bosley added 20 points including three three point baskets.  Quan Taylor recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds.

Quinten Snider led Ballard with 23 points and seven assists.  Kelan Martin added 19 points and 12 rebounds.  Lavonne Holland chipped in with 15 points.  Malik Dow pulled down seven rebounds.
