South Laurel vs. Madison Southern (Boys)

South Laurel coach Jeff Davis started the following lineup: 6-4 Jr. Caden Jones, 6-1 So. Parker Payne, 6-6 Jr. Rhys England, 6-0 So. Eli Gover, and 6-0 Sr. Micah Anders.  Madison Southern coach Austin Newton countered with 6-3 Sr. Trent DeVries, 5-9 Sr. Jayden Adams, 6-2 Jr. Blake Simpson, 5-7 So. Zach Hudson, and 5-8 Jr. Walter Smith.

 

Madison Southern raced out to an 11 point lead in the first quarter but South Laurel rallied to lead 29-28 at halftime and pulled away in the second half for a 73-61 victory.  South Laurel shot 55.6% from the field including five of 18 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 18 of 23 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 12 points off nine Madison Southern turnovers.  Madison Southern shot 36.8% from the field including six of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 12 South Laurel turnovers.

 

Rhys England led South Laurel with 18 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.  Parker Payne added 17 points including seven of eight free throws, seven rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.  Caden Jones recorded nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Micah Anders also scored nine points including four of four free throws, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  6-1 So. Ayden Smith recorded 11 points including two three point baskets.

 

6-2 So. Jay Rose led Madison Southern with 22 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Trent DeVries added 15 points including two three point baskets, five of six free throws.  Zach Hudson chipped in with nine points including four of four free throws, and four rebounds.  Walter Smith recorded five points, three rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
