Covington Catholic coach Scott Ruthsatz started the following lineup: 6-6 So. Chandler Starks, 6-5 Jr. Colin McHale, 6-7 Jr. Mitchell Rylee, 5-9 So. Evan Ipsaro, and 6-4 Sr. Donovan Stocks. St. Henry coach Dave Faust countered with 6-3 Sr. Wyatt Vieth, 6-2 Sr. Jude Bessler, 6-4 Sr. Cody Teeten, 5-8 Sr. Cory Shea, and 5-10 Sr. Ryan Butler.
Wyatt Vieth scored on a put back and added a free throw on the “and one” in the closing second to give St. Henry a 61-60 victory over Covington Catholic. St. Henry shot 38.5% from the field including four of 14 from the three point line. The Crusaders connected on 17 of 19 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and committed 11 turnovers. Covington Catholic shot 47.4% from the field including three of eight from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 21 of 28 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and committed 12 turnovers.
Wyatt Vieth led St. Henry with 25 points including two three point baskets, seven of seven free throws, nine rebounds, and two assists. Jude Bessler added 18 points including five of six free throws and three rebounds. Cody Teeten recorded nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Donovan Stocks led Covington Catholic with 15 points including eight of eight free throws, four rebounds, and four assists. Chandler Starks added 13 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and four steals. Mitchell Rylee recorded 13 points and four rebounds. Evan Ipsaro added 10 points including seven of nine free throws.
