Sayre vs. Frederick Douglass (Boys)

42nd District Tournament

Sayre coach Robert Goodman started the following lineup: 6-4 Jr. Cole Pennington, 6-3 Sr. Cory Givens, 6-6 Jr. Sam Lain, 6-0 Jr. Dant Bowling, and 6-0 Jr. Zander Collett.  Frederick Douglass coach Jason Moseley countered with 6-4 Jr. Tyson Barrett, 6-2 Sr. Julius Scearce, 6-8 Sr. Shemar O’Roy-Ford, 5-11 Jr. Kai Simpson, and 6-2 Sr. DaShawn Jackson.

 

Frederick Douglass scored 26 points off 24 Sayre turnovers in an 81-47 victory.  Frederick Douglass shot 47.7% from the field including eight of 22 from the three point line.  The Broncos connected on 11 of 23 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and held a 25-11 advantage in bench scoring.  Sayre shot 31.5% from the field including three of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Spartans connected on 10 of 19 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored six points off 14 Frederick Douglass turnovers. 

 

DaShawn Jackson led Frederick Douglass with 22 points including four three point baskets, four of four free throws, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Kai Simpson added 17 points, four rebounds, six assists, and six steals.  Tyson Barrett recorded 10 points, five rebounds, and five blocked shots.  5-8 Sr. Khamri McMullen chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.

 

Zander Collett led Sayre with 22 points including five of seven free throws and four rebounds.  Dant Bowling added eight points including two three point baskets.  Cole Pennington recorded two points, nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
