Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Scott Chalk started the following lineup: 6-5 Jr. Tim Hall Jr., 6-4 Jr. Zach Carter, 6-8 Jr. Lionel Kumwimba, 6-0 So. Nick Spalding, and 6-1 Jr. Max VanDyke. Frederick Douglass coach Jason Moseley countered with 6-4 Jr. Tyson Barrett, 6-2 Sr. Julius Scearce, 6-8 Sr. Shemar O’Roy-Ford, 5-11 Jr. Kai Simpson, and 6-1 Sr. DaShawn Jackson.
Frederick Douglass led by 11 in the third quarter but had to survive a furious rally by Dunbar to earn a 56-55 victory and avenge their only loss of the season. The score was tied six times and there were six lead changes in this game. Frederick Douglass shot 41.8% from the field including four of 18 from the three point line. The Broncos connected on six of nine free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 14 Dunbar turnovers. Paul Laurence Dunbar shot 38.2% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs connected on nine of 16 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Frederick Douglass turnovers.
DaShawn Jackson led Frederick Douglass with 24 points including three three point baskets, three of three free throws, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Kai Simpson added 13 points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Tyson Barrett recorded 11 points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots. Shemar O’Roy-Ford chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.
Tim Hall Jr. led Paul Laurence Dunbar with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and one blocked shot. Nick Spalding added 11 points including two three point baskets, and five rebounds. Lionel Kumwimba recorded eight points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots. 6-5 Jr. Shyhiem Drew chipped in with six points and five rebounds. 6-3 Jr. Cade Hilt added six points and four rebounds. Zach Carter recorded six points, three rebounds, and two assists.
