Ashland Blazer coach Jason Mays started the following lineup: 6-2 Jr. Cole Villers, 6-2 Fr. Zander Carter, 6-8 Sr. Sean Marcum, 5-11 So. Colin Porter, and 6-1 Jr. Ethan Sellars. West Carter coach Jeremy Webb countered with 6-3 Jr. Landon Nichols, 6-1 Sr. Hunter Sammons, 6-3 Sr. Trevor Callahan, 5-7 Sr. Gage Leadingham, and 6-1 Sr. Tyson Webb.
Ashland Blazer’s Colin Porter nailed a three point basket in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime and the Tomcats rallied to defeat West Carter by a score of 76-69. West Carter trailed 49-44 after three quarters but West Carter rallied to lead 63-60 before Porter’s last second heroics to force the extra period. There were five ties and nine lead changes in the game. Ashland shot 46% from the field including 13 of 25 from the three point line. The Tomcats connected on 17 of 26 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 18 West Carter turnovers. West Carter shot 49% from the field including two of 11 from beyond the arc. The Comets connected on 17 of 21 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 15 Ashland turnovers.
Cole Villers led Ashland Blazer with 35 points including seven three point baskets, eight of nine free throws, seven rebounds, and three assists. Colin Porter added 17 points including four three point baskets, two rebounds, and five assists. Ethan Sellars recorded 10 points and two rebounds. Sean Marcum pulled down nine rebounds.
Tyson Webb led West Carter with 36 points including 12 of 13 free throws, three rebounds, and two assists. Trevor Callahan added 13 points and six rebounds. Gage Leadingham recorded eight points, five rebounds, and six assists.
