42nd District Tournament Championship

Frederick Douglass coach Jason Moseley started the following lineup: 6-7 Jr. Tyson Barrett, 6-0 Jr. Tylon Webb, 6-7 Sr. Shemar O’Roy-Ford, 5-5 Fr. Armelo Boone, and 5-11 Jr. Kai Simpson.  Henry Clay coach Daniel Brown countered with 6-2 Sr. Aziel Blackwell, 6-2 Jr. Kyan Miller, 6-7 Sr. Brenden Wicker, 5-9 Jr. Konlin Brown, and 6-1 Sr. Kanye Henderson.

 

Frederick Douglass captured a 57-54 overtime decision and the district title over Henry Clay tonight.  This was a game of runs as Frederick Douglass led 34-22 early in the third quarter but Henry Clay finished the third quarter on a 20-4 run to take a 42-38 lead after three quarters.  The score was tied 51-51 at the end of regulation and Frederick Douglass outscored Henry Clay 6-3 in overtime for the win.  There were two lead changes and three ties in the game.  Frederick Douglass shot 39.6% from the field including six of 19 from the three point line.  The Broncos connected on nine of 16 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 21 Henry Clay turnovers.  Henry Clay shot 42.2% from the field including six of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Blue Devils connected on 10 of 18 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 18 Frederick Douglass turnovers.

 

Kai Simpson led Frederick Douglass with 13 points including two three point baskets, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Armelo Boone added 13 points including two three point baskets.  6-3 So. Leighton Harris recorded nine points including two three point baskets.  Tyson Barrett pulled down nine rebounds.

 

Kanye Henderson led Henry Clay with 24 points, five rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Aziel Blackwell added 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Konlin Brown recorded nine points on three three point baskets, three rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals.  Brenden Wicker recorded seven rebounds, six blocked shots, and three steals.
