2022 Mingua Beef Jerky Girls’ Sweet 16® State Basketball Tournament

Franklin County (28-7) (Region 11) vs. Henderson County (24-5) (Region 2)

Franklin County coach Joey Thacker started the following lineup: 6-1 So. Rachel Shropshire, 5-10 Sr. Patience Laster, 6-4 Jr. Jhaven Meade, 5-5 Sr. Nevaeh Carter, and 6-0 Jr. Jazmin Chambers.  Henderson County coach Jeff Haile countered with 5-8 Sr. Careese Toombs, 5-8 Jr. Graci Risley, 5-11 Jr. Jarie Thomas, 5-4 Jr. Savannah Lacer, and 5-4 Sr. Kaytlan Kemp.

 

5-7 Fr. Cameryn Ridderikhoff nailed a three point “dagger-in-the-heart” with less tan a minute on the clock to ensure Franklin County’s 46-43 victory over Henderson County.  This game was a “chess match” between two of the best veteran coaches in the game Joey Thacker (Franklin County) and Jeff Haile (Henderson County) and it proved to be a nail-biter with seven ties and 14 lead changes.  Each team’s longest lead was five points with Franklin County leading for 14:03, Henderson County 12:02, and tied for 5:55, in other words, a close, competitive game.  Franklin County shot 37.5% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Flyers connected on 12 of 17 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored nine points off eight Henderson County turnovers.  Henderson County shot 35.45 from the field including seven of 15 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Colonels connected on two of two free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 Franklin County turnovers.

 

Patience Laster led Franklin County with 12 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.  Jazmin Chambers added 10 points including two three point baskets.  Jhaven Meade recorded seven points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots.

 

5-8 Jr. Mallorie Veal led Henderson County with 13 points including three three point baskets.  Graci Risley added 12 points on four three point baskets.  Jarie Thomas recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Kaytlan Kemp chipped in with two points, two rebounds, eight assists, and four steals.
