Great Crossing coach Matt Walls started the following lineup: 5-10 Jr. Ava Schureman, 5-8 Jr. Olivia Tierney, 6-0 Sr. Raegan Barrett, 5-6 So. Meredith Turner, and 5-7 So. Chapel Brown. Newport Central Catholic coach Ralph Meyer III countered with 5-6 Jr. Delaney Green, 5-6 So. Jaylee Brannen, 5-8 Sr. Joelie Kinnett, 5-5 So. Katelyn Brannen, and 5-4 So. Caroline Eaglin.
Newport Central Catholic defeated Great Crossing by the score of 66-53. The score was tied four times and there were eight lead changes in this game. Newport Central Catholic shot 42.6% from the field including eight of 22 from the three point line. The Thoroughbreds connected on 18 of 30 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 17 Great Crossing turnovers. Great Crossing shot 27.9% from the field including four of 10 from beyond the arc. The Warhawks connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 50 rebounds, and scored seven points off 10 Newport Central Catholic’s turnovers.
Carolin Eaglin led Newport Central Catholic with 33 points including 14 of 24 free throws, five rebounds, and nine steals. Delaney Green added 19 points including five three point baskets. Jaylee Brannen recorded seven points and five rebounds. Katelyn Brannen pulled down six rebounds.
Raegan Barrett led Great Crossing with 12 points including eight of eight free throws, 16 rebounds, three blocked shots, and three steals. Ava Schureman added 12 points. 5-4 8th Grade Adrianna Brown recorded seven points and four rebounds. 5-7 Sr. Kaylee Ray chipped in with six points and five rebounds.
