Conner ran their option offense flawlessly tonight in an impressive 45-21 victory over Paul Laurence Dunbar. Conner recorded 27 first downs and 396 yards of total offense. The Cougars were penalized eight times for 82 yards and had one pass intercepted. Paul Laurence Dunbar recorded 15 first downs and 328 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs were penalized 10 times for 80 yards and lost three fumbles.
Cordion Abernathy led Conner’s ground game with 146 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries. Wyatt Hatfield added 117 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Chase Caplinger chipped in with 27 yards on two carries. Wyatt Hatfield completed six of nine passes for 64 yards and a touchdown with one interception. Ben Fay caught four passes for 43 yards and a touchdown. Chase Caplinger returned one kickoff for 29 and Elliot Butcher returned a kickoff for 16 yards. Andrew Herron kicked six PATS, kicked a 29 yard field goal, punted once for 33 yards, and kicked off eight times for a 58.5 average and four touch backs. Ben Fay led the defense with four solo and three assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a one yard loss. Adam Duncan added two solo and four assisted tackles with two of his tackles resulting in losses totaling nine yards. Evan Leitz recorded two solo and three assisted tackles and recovered a fumble. Austin Stephenson and Gabe Huff also recovered a fumble each.
Ethan Teall led Dunbar’s ground game with 33 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Pacifique Nduwayo carried the ball nine times for 29 yards. Kotaro Nagano added 23 yards on three carries. Ethan Teall completed 12 of 21 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown. Trae Berry caught six passes for 176 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Barrett added two receptions for 19 yards. Kyan Hall caught one pass for 24 yards. Amontae Flynn returned three kickoffs for 53 yards with a long return of 21 yards. Ryan O’Hara kicked off four times for a 58.5 average and two touch backs. Kyan Hall led the defense with six solo and two assisted tackles. Logan Pittmon added five solo and three assisted tackles. Aiden Davis recorded five solo and one assisted tackles with 1.5 of his tackles resulting in losses totaling seven yards. Lake Hacker intercepted a pass.
