Covington Catholic coach Sco tt Ruthsatz started the following lineup: 6-2 Sr. Brady Hussey, 6-0 Jr. Nolan Ruthsatz, 6-9 Sr. Caden Miller, 5-11 So. Cash Harney, and 5-11 So. Athens McGillis. Newport coach Rodney Snapp countered with 6-3 Jr. Noah Silverton, 6-2 Sr. DeShaun Jackson, 6-7 So. James Turner, 6-0 Sr. Jabari Covington, and 6-1 So. Taylen Kinney.

The score was tied 29-29 at halftime but Covington Catholic outscored Newport 23-15 in the third quarter on their way to a 73-63 victory. The score was tied four times and there were six lead changes in the game. Covington Catholic shot 60.4% from the field including eight of 15 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 10 points off five Newport turnovers. Newport shot 39.3% from the field including seven of 22 from beyond the arc. The Wildcats connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 12 Covington Catholic turnovers.

Caden Miller led Covington Catholic with 15 points, four rebounds, two assists, and five blocked shots. Brady Hussey added 15 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, and four assists. Athens McGillis recorded 14 points, four rebounds, and six assists. Nolan Ruthsatz chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets and six rebounds. Cash Harney added 10 points. 6-6 So. Donavan Bradshaw recorded eight points on four of four from the field and two rebounds.

Taylen Kinney led Newport with 18 points including seven of seven from the free throw line, three rebounds, and three assists. James Turner added 15 points and three rebounds. DeShaun Jackson recorded 14 points including two three point baskets, eight rebounds, and two assists. Jabari Covington chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets, three rebounds, and four assists.
