2009 Bluegrass Insider East-West Roundball Classic
Topic: Basketball

A few more thoughts and tidbits on this event held on April 11th.

Team #5 won their two games by scores of 135-104 and 133-87 over two talented teams.  Team #5 roster consisted of a good combination of inside-outside scoring with several players capable of scoring in bunches.  Team members listed included Curtis Washington (2010) Elizabethtown, D'Carlo Hayes (2010) Louisville Male, Ethan Hawn (2010) Rock Creek IN, Jomari Bradshaw (2010) Louisville Waggener, Mitch McLeish (2010) Ryle, Thomas Blakemore (2010) Louisville Butler, Deonte Maddox (2010) Louisville Seneca,  Sean Samsel (2010) duPont Manual, and Aleksandar Nickolic (2010) duPont Manual.

It was fun watching Charles Ashford (2009) Bryan Station and Tyler Rogers (2009) Paul Dunbar play again.  Ashford is a 6-2 guard who is a scorer and has quick hands on defense.  6-8 Tyler Rogers is long and lean with an impressive wingspan who can create havoc in the paint.

Bowling Green was well represented with Victor Smith (2011) and Darius Clement (2011) having good games.  James "Boo" Brewer ex University of Louisville player sons Anthony Brewer (2012) and Lorenzo Jordan Brewer (both 2012) are two promising young guards at LaRue County.

Lawrence County was well represented on the girls' side with several of their girls playing well.  Tanya Bowens (2009) handles the ball well and has the ability to get to the basket.  Christian Academy of Louisville had several players here and their future looks bright.  Alexus Colbert (2013) is very athletic and could be very good.

Ashley Mullins (2012) Harlan has good size, scores inside, and runs the floor well.  Keep an eye on Kendra Lambert (2014) North Harrison IN.  Lambert has excellent court awareness for her age.  Shelby-Lain Brown (2010) Eastern-Pekin IN is the ultimate team player who does whatever is necessary to put her team in a position to win.

Bullitt East has a good inside-outside combination in Lindey Young (2011) and Jessica Philpot (2011).  Darian Ditto (2012) Elizabethtown is another young player capable of logging quality playing time this season.

Many players had good performances today and while I don't rank players these are just some personal observations I made on a few of the players.

It was extremely difficult to pick MVPs for the various games as the talent level was fairly even and the coaches remarked that the award could have went to one of several players.

Stan Hardin, Steve Small, and Dave Satterly of the Kentucky All-Stars were in attendance today.

Legendary Kentucky high school basketball coach Stan Hardin was honored today with an appreciation plaque  recognizing his selection to the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
