Dear Coach,   This week's event to mark down on your calendar is June 7-8 (Saturday and Sunday) when the 1st Annual Florida High Potential/Blue-Chip Boys Basketball Camp at Warner University in Lake Wales, FL, will take place.  Lake Wales is around one hour away from either Orlando or Tampa.  There will be 60+ high school age players there from five states and Guadeloupe.  Headlining the cast of college prospects will be 6-9 rising senior, Trey Moses of Louisville Eastern (KY), who is one of the top 12 rising seniors in the Bluegrass State.  Players will perform in a total of 5 games over the 2 days/1 night camp with two games being played on Saturday and three games on Sunday.  This camp will be a gold mine if you are from either the D-2, D-3, NAIA or JUCO community.  There is no admission charge and each college coach will be provided a free camp program.  Two hotels in Lake Wales are the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express.   For the women coaches later on this month, I will be providing more information on the 17th Annual High Potential/Blue-Chip Girls Showcase Mini Camp, June 26-27 (Thursday and Friday) at Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY.  There will be 100+ players in attendance from over a dozen states.   Sincerely,   Rick Bolus High Potential/Blue-Chip Camp Camp Director and Scout since 1973    P.S.  The past five Final Fours (2010-2014) have had at least one former High Potential/Blue-Chip camper in it.

The Black Team coach Herman Harried started the following lineup: 6-8 Tadas Sedekerskis, 6-9 Lucas Siewert, 6-11 Udoka Azubuike, 6-0 Kevin Cham, and 6-4 Maximo Hugo Fjellerup.  The White Team coach Kyle Manary countered with 6-3 Anthony McNish, 6-7 Kassoum Yakwe, 6-9 Isaiah Hartenstein, 6-0 Ognjen Carapic, and 6-4 Aleksandar Aranitovic.

 

The White Team trailed 57-52 after three quarters but rallied for a 74-71 victory over the Black Team.  There were eight ties and seven lead changes in this game.  The White Team shot 34.7% from the field including nine of 27 from the three point line.  They connected on 15 of 23 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and committed 16 turnovers.  The Black Team shot 33.8% from the field including six of 21 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 21 of 29 free throws, pulled down 53 rebounds, and committed 23 turnovers.

 

Jahvon Blair was named MVP for the White Team and recorded 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  Anthony McNish added 14 points and Kassoum Yakwe chipped in with 13 points.  Lovro Buljevic scored 12 points and Rodney Miller pulled down nine rebounds.

 

Tadas Sedekerskis led the Black Team with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Udoka Azubuike was named Team Black MVP and recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Ibrahima Fall Faye added 10 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Lucas Siewert also scored 10 points.

The Regional Home Team defeated the Regional Away Team 102-99 in overtime.  There were nine ties and eight lead changes in this hard fought battle.  The Home Team shot 43% from the field including seven of 21 from the three point line.  They connected on 15 of 27 free throws, pulled down 67 rebounds, and committed 15 turnovers.  The Away Team shot 40.2% from the field including nine of 29 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 12 of 21 free throws, pulled down 55 rebounds, and committed 14 turnovers.

 

The Home Team was led by Team MVP Khadeen Carrington with 18 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.  Samson Usilo added 17 points, two blocked shots, and four steals.  Desi Rodriguez recorded 17 points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Adonis DeLaRosa added 12 points and eight rebounds.  Dwayne Foreman chipped in with 11 points. Abdul-Malik Abu tallied 10 points and 11 rebounds and Ismael Sanogo pulled down 11 rebounds.

 

Ja’Quan Newton was named MVP of the Away Team and scored 23 points.  Marial Shayok recorded 12 points. Angel Delgado added 11 points and 17 rebounds.  Jared Terrell also scored 11 points.  Kobie Eubanks also reached double figures with 10 points and Paschal Chukwu pulled down nine rebounds.

The East Team defeated the West Team 158-147 in a game that had nine ties and 13 lead changes.  This was a high scoring shootout wit a total of 211 field goals attempted.  The East Team shot 63% from the field including eight of 18 from the three point line.  They connected on 24 of 32 free throws, pulled down 58 rebounds, and committed 17 turnovers.  The West Team shot 53.2% from the field including 10 of 30 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 19 of 31 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and committed seven turnovers.

 

Jahlil Okafor was named Team MVP and led the East team with 29 points and nine rebounds.  Kelly Oubre added 24 points including three three point baskets.  James Blackmon Jr. recorded 23 points.  Trey Lyles chipped in with 17 points.  Reid Travis tallied 12 points. Justin Jackson scored 11 points.  Tyus Jones recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, and 12 assists.  Karl Towns Jr. added nine points and seven rebounds.

 

Stanley Johnson led the West Team with 24 points including three three point baskets.  Cliff Alexander was name Team MVP and added 23 points, eight rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Emmanuel Mudiay recorded 19 points and six assists.  Shaqquan Aaron and Justise Winslow chipped in with 14 and 13 points respectively.  Devin Booker, Theo Pinson, and Daniel Hamilton added 11, 10, and 10 points respectively.  Tyler Ulis recorded nine points, six rebounds, and nine assists.

The White team defeated the Green team by a score of 128-104.  They raced out to a 29-17 first quarter lead and led 56-36 at halftime.  The White team shot 44.5% from the field including five of 21 from the three point line.  They connected on 17 of 25 free throws and pulled down 77 rebounds.  The Green team shot 46% from the field including seven of 30 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 17 of 23 free throws and pulled down 43 rebounds.

 

Trevon Bluiett led the White team with 22 points.  Devin Robinson added 20 points.  Bonzie Colson recorded 18 points and 15 rebounds.  Jaylen Johnson chipped in with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Leron Black, Brandone Francis and Keita Bates-Diop also reached double figures with 13, 12, and 10 points respectively.  Quentin Snider was named team MVP with eight points and nine assists.  Chinanu Onuaku pulled own 10 rebounds.

 

JaQuan Lyle led the Green team with 16 points.  Dwayne Morgan and Goodluck Okonoboh each scored 14 points.  Max Hoetzel and Robert Johnson added 10 points each.  Romelo Trimble recorded nine points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.  Jonah Bolden added nine points and nine rebounds.  Isaac Copeland was named team MVP and scored nine points.

Randy Ward Game Director and his staff does an excellent job with this two day event.  The festivities starts with the SlamJam Festival “Night of Stars” competitions which consists of 1 on 1, 3 on 3, 3-point shooting, and slam dunk.

 

Girls – The overall champion in the 3-point shootout was Ashley McMurtry (Kentucky Oldham County) over Amanda Cahill (Ohio Clyde).  The 1 on 1 championship featured Danielle Lawrence (Butler) defeating Erica Rogers (Montgomery County) for the Kentucky championship and Ana Richter (Talwanda) defeating Brittany Johnson (Pickerington North) for the Ohio championship.  Ana Richter defeated Danielle Lawrence for the overall championship.  The 3-on-3 championship featured the Kentucky team of Eriel McKee (Anderson County), Kayla Rankin (Perry County Central), and Sarah Cooley (Lafayette) defeating the Ohio team of Leanna Adkins (Oak Hill), Chelsea Mitchell (Princeton), and Kelsey Mitchell (Princeton).

 

Boys – The overall champion in the 3-point shootout was Dakota Mathias (Ohio Elida) over Nick Ruthsatz (Kentucky Covington Catholic).  The 1 on 1 championship featured Nick Ruthsatz (Covington Catholic) defeating Joe Jackson (Louisville Fern Creek) for the Kentucky championship and Dakota Mathias (Elida) defeating Grant Benzinger (Moeller) for the Ohio championship.  Dakota Mathias defeated Nick Ruthsatz for the overall championship.  The 3-on-3 championship featured the Ohio team of Grant Benzinger (Moeller), Steve Carpenter (Fairfield), and Mitch Spotleson (Lake) defeating the Kentucky team of Jake Schulte (Newport Central Catholic), Joe Jackson (Fern Creek), and Brandon Trotter (Seneca).  Javon Bess (Ohio Gahanna Lincoln) defeated Justin Johnson (Kentucky Perry County Central) for the slam dunk title.

Ohio trailed 32-19 in the first half and 46-42 at halftime but rallied to defeat Kentucky by a score of 114-91.  Jenna Burdette led Ohio with 16 points including two three point baskets.  Tyra James was named team MVP and scored 15 points including 11 points during Ohio’s comeback run.  Amanda Cahill, Brittany Johnson, and Ana Richter each scored 10 points.

 

Kayla Rankin was named MVP for the Kentucky team and scored 15 points.  Devin Conley added 13 points including three three point baskets.  Danielle Lawrence and Madison Raque each scored 10 points.
