DuPont Manual vs. Ballard

Ballard High School
Louisville, KY
September 16, 2016

© 2016 by Ron Harrison

This game features the DuPont Manual Crimsons (4-0) entering the game with five consecutive victories over the (3-1) Ballard Bruins who have rapidly adjusted to their new coach and his West Coast offense.  Manual continued their streak over the Bruins with a 13-0 shut out victory tonight led by their staunch defensive effort which limited Ballard to a negative 36 yards on the ground and the huge offensive line that averages close to 300 pounds per man.  Ballard did have their opportunity driving inside the Manual 10 yard line but were turned away empty handed both times.  Manual recorded 15 first downs and 218 yards of total offense.  The Crimsons were penalized nine times for 97 yards.  Ballard recorded 10 first times and 137 yards of total offense.  The Bruins were penalized 11 times for 90 yards and lost a fumble.

John Riley led Manual’s ground game with 67 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.  Andre Teague carried the ball 14 times for 55 yards.  Marcis Floyd added 36 yards on 17 carries.  William Britt completed three of eight passes for 26 yards.  Jalen Carter caught four passes for 35 yards.

Odell Smith led Ballard’s ground game with one yard on four carries.  Terrance May completed 17 of 33 passes for 166 yards.  Jordan Gunter caught nine passes for 93 yards.  Justice Warrick added two receptions for 29 yards.

The KHSAA has not officially recognized a final score in this game.  Scott County led 25-20 with 11:04 remaining in the third quarter when the referees halted play because of lightning in the area.  The game was suspended after an hour-long delay.  Evidently the teams could not come to an agreement on finishing the game.  The teams have until Monday to come to an agreement on a makeup plan or the KHSAA will make the final ruling on the outcome of the game.  The abbreviated stats up to the suspension of the game are as follows:  Scott County recorded 13 first downs and 266 yards of total offense.  The Cardinals were penalized four times for 32 yards.  Lafayette recorded 12 first downs and 281 yards of total offense.  The Generals were penalized six times for 64 yards and had a pass intercepted.

Kendrick Hamilton led Scott County’s ground game with 89 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.  Brice Fryman carried the ball five times for 41 yards.  Josh Davis completed five of nine passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns.  Glenn Covington caught four passes for 70 yards and a touchdown.  Kendrick Hamilton caught a 48 yard touchdown pass.  Cooper Robb led the defense with five solo tackles and an interception.  KJ Christopher added four solo and two assisted tackles.

Cameron Morgan led Lafayette’s ground game with 91 yards on nine carries.  Walker Wood carried the ball 10 times for 30 yards and a touchdown.  Walker Wood completed eight of 12 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown with one interception.  Quinten Brown caught four passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.  Matthew Guilfoil added two receptions for 23 yards.  Dezmon Simpson led the defense with two solo and one assisted tackles.  Jadus Smith and Bryan Jackson each recorded two solo tackles.
