Eastern Kentucky University overcame a lot of adversity today to defeat #11 Central Arkansas by the score of 31-28.  Eastern Kentucky took a 17-7 lead in the first half but QB Parker McKinney had to leave the game with an injury after torching the Bears defense for 216 yards and two touchdowns through the air before having to leave the game.  Dakota Allen entered the game at for EKU at QB before halftime and led the Colonels to a 24-14 lead early in the final quarter.  Central Arkansas fought back and took a 28-24 lead with 1:21 left in the game on a one yard run by Breylin Smith and a conversion kick by Hayden Ray.  The Colonels took over on their own 23 yard line and marched down the field aided by a costly personal foul penalty and a roughing the passer penalty on Central Arkansas which put EKU in position to have a chance to pull this game out.  Dakota Allen found Matt Wilcox Jr. in the left corner of the end zone from 21 yards with six seconds remaining on the clock.  Alexander Woznick added the conversion kick to make the score 31-28.  EKU successfully defended the kickoff return and the Colonels celebrated a big win.

Pulaski County vs. Southwestern

Southwestern High School
Somerset, KY
October 23, 2020

This cross town matchup normally has its share of drama but tonight was even more unusual.  Southwestern was coming into the game undefeated but records can normally be thrown out in rivalry games.  Pulaski County was without the services of starting QB Drew Polston so Brysen Dugger got the start tonight.  Then the weather kicked in with Pulaski County leading 7-6 with approximately 5:30 left in the third quarter lightning and a monsoon rain forced an hour and 15 minute delay.  Southwestern took a 12-7 lead on an eight yard run by Giddeon Brainard with 5:17 left in the game.  Pulaski County immediately began their drive on their own 27 yard line.  Coach Johnny Hines put the ball in the hands of 6-3 225 pound LB/RB Tristan Cox in the “wildcat” formation and Cox marched the team down the field and eventually score from one yard out with six seconds left on the clock and Kaleb Adams scored on the conversion run to give the Maroons a 15-12 win and write another chapter in this intense rivalry.  Pulaski County recorded 16 first downs and 220 yards of total offense.  The Maroons were penalized twice for 10 yards and had three passes intercepted.  Southwestern recorded 13 first downs and 255 yards of total offense.  The Warriors were penalized five times for 60 yards and had a pass intercepted.

Tristan Cox led the Pulaski County ground game with 50 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.  Brysen Dugger completed 14 of 27 passes for 116 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions.  Barek Williams caught seven passes for 66 yards and one touchdown.  Jacob Shepherd added five receptions for 36 yards.  Tristan Cox led the defense with seven solo and six assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a loss and also intercepted a pass.  Layton Abbott added eight solo and five assisted tackles.  Ryan Dye recorded two solo and eight assisted tackles.  Christian Slavey added four solo and four assisted tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a loss.

Tanner Wright led Southwestern’s ground game with 95 yards on 20 carries.  Giddeon Brainard carried the ball 12 times for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Chanler Crabtree completed eight of 12 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown with one interception.  Kaden Hewitt caught two passes for 39 yards and a touchdown.  Ian Ware caught one pass for 23 yards.  Maison Hibbard, Ian Ware, and Rowan Pennington each intercepted a pass.
