Team Competition

There were six teams in this event designated as Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Utah, and Wisconsin.  Rick Bolus added a new concept to determine the team championship this year.  Each team played three regular games and participated in several skill competitions also known as “cut-throat” competitions.  The winner of each regular game was awarded two points while the winner of each skill competition received one point.  Kentucky won the competition with a 2-1 record in the regular games and a total of 8.5 points over Indiana who was also 2-1 and tallied 7.5 points.  Wisconsin was 3-0 in the regular games but only won one competition and finished with 7.0 points.  This style was well received by the ladies and the competition was intense in all events.  The Tournament MVP from Kentucky was 5-8 8th Grade Lexi Taylor Mt. Washington Middle School Mt. Washington, KY.  The Tournament Runner-Up MVP from Indiana was 5-10 So. Sierra Graham Bullitt Central Shepherdsville, KY.

Rick Bolus Louisville Girls Showcase
Topic: Basketball

I will include a conclusion for this event later this week which will include my thoughts about the players and a wrap-up of this event.  I was impressed as usual by the organization and coordination of the various aspects of the Showcase.  I greatly appreciate the parents and the young ladies that participated, a special group.  I also allowed myself to wander down memory lane as I watched the last of the legendary Wilson sisters, Melanie prepare to enter her senior year.  The sisters Kayla Miranda, and Melanie Wilson appeared in the state tournament playing for Corbin in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014.  Kayla and Miranda graduated in 2013-2014.  The Lady Redhounds were a special group and this was one of the golden moments in their school's athletic program.

And then there was one......5-5 Sr. Melanie Wilson will be entering her senior campaign and as Rick Bolus summed it up "a cerebral point guard who shoots the ball."  I was very impressed with Miss Wilson as she always appeared to find the seams in the defense and her ability to hit the open jump shot.  I watched these sisters play at an early age at AAU events and as the last one prepares to finish at the high school level and move forward thanks for the memories.

I also intend to sum all this up later and have a full report on the main body of my website.
