St. Xavier vs. Trinity

Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium
Lexington, KY
October 2, 2015

© 2015 by Ron Harrison

Trinity defeated St. Xavier 20-15 on a rainy, dreary night before an estimated 13,000 fans.  Jailen Reed ran for three touchdowns in the first half to give Trinity a 20-10 halftime lead.  St. Xavier held the Shamrocks scoreless in the second half but three interceptions and the inability to run the ball spelled doom for the Tigers.  St. Xavier had one last chance but ended when a Hail Mary pass was batted down on the final play of the game. Trinity struggled with their punting game with two snaps over the punter’s head (the first which led to St. Xavier’s touchdown) and a blocked punt.  Trinity recorded 18 first downs and 325 yards of total offense.  The Shamrocks were penalized five times for 44 yards and lost a fumble.  St. Xavier recorded eight first downs and 145 yards of total offense.  The Tigers were penalized twice for 20 yards and had three passes intercepted.

Jailen Reed led Trinity’s ground attack with 141 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries.  Jacob Woosley completed 21 of 25 passes for 157 yards.  Dalton Jones and Rodjay Burns each caught seven passes for 57 and 55 yards respectively.  Luke Eskins, Rodjay Burns, and Ryan Reynolds each intercepted a pass.

Desmond Ridder led St. Xavier’s ground game with 22 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.  C. Rowan carried the ball 13 times for 19 yards.  Desmond Ridder completed seven of 23 passes for 90 yards with three interceptions.  T. Clements caught two passes for 41 yards.  B. Roshkowski added two receptions for 31 yards.  W. James Tobin led the defense with five solo and four assisted tackles.
