Pulaski County vs. Henry Clay

Henry Clay High School
Lexington, KY
September 13, 2019

© 2019 by Ron Harrison

Pulaski County took control of the game right before halftime and pulled away in the second half for a 28-7 victory over Henry Clay.  Henry Clay took a 7-0 lead but a combination of poor special team play (bad snaps) and the offense going dormant doomed the Blue Devils.  Pulaski County tied the game at 7-7 after a poor snap to the punter into the end zone and after the ball was further mishandled Pulaski County recovered for a touchdown.  Pulaski County took advantage of their passing attack and utilized the old school shovel pass in key situations and late in the game utilized their running attack to close out the game.  Pulaski County recorded 15 first downs and 266 yards of total offense.  The Maroons were penalized nine times for 142 yards.  Henry Clay recorded nine first downs and 114 yards of total offense.  The Blue Devils were penalized five times for 46 yards, lost a fumble, and had a pass intercepted.

Tristan Cox led Pulaski County’s ground game with 64 yards on 11 carries.  Drew Polston carried the ball 13 times for 59 yards.  Drew Polston completed 19 of 26 passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns.  Jake Sloan caught 12 passes for 64 yards and a touchdown.  Grant Oaks added four receptions for 39 yards and two touchdowns.  Konner Hargis led the defense with six solo and one assisted tackles.  Chase Parmelee added five solo and three assisted tackles.  Tristan Cox recorded three solo and two assisted tackles and recovered a fumble for a touchdown.  Jacob Shepherd intercepted a pass.

Preston Stacy led Henry Clay’s ground game with 35 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.  DJ VanHorn completed seven of 18 passes for 78 yards with one interception.  Preston Stacy caught two passes for 36 yards.  DJ VanHorn returned one kickoff for 22 yards.  Chris Dabney led the defense with six solo and three assisted tackles.  Jordan Kimball added four solo and three assisted tackles.  Robert Crosby recorded three solo and five assisted tackles.  Soph. Miles Meegan provided a late spark with two solo tackles with one of his tackles resulting in a four yard loss.
