Ottawa-Glandorf (25-2) vs. Columbus Africentric (23-6) Division III (Semifinal)

 

Ottawa-Glandorf coach Tyson McGlaughlin started the following lineup: Sr. Carter Schimmoeller, Sr. Caleb Kuhlman, 6-2 Sr. Eli Schmenk, Jr. Theo Maag, and 6-4 So. Colin White.  Columbus Africentric coach Michael Bates countered with 6-6 Jr. Preston Steele, 6-3 Sr. Josiah Smith, 6-8 Jr. Dailyn Swain, 6-0 Jr. Dyson Bibins, and 6-1 Sr. Dan Wagner.

 

Ottawa-Glandorf trailed 37-31 after three quarters but went on a 12-0 run to open the final quarter on their way to a 53-48 victory over Columbus Africentric.  There were two ties and two lead changes in this game.  Ottawa-Glandorf shot 35.3% from the field including four of 16 from the three point line.  The Titans connected on 13 of 21 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 13 Columbus Africentric turnovers.  Columbus Africentric shot 37% from the field including zero of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Nubians connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 12 Ottawa-Glandorf turnovers.

 

Colin White led Ottawa-Glandorf with 31 points including two three point baskets, seven of 10 free throws, 11 rebounds, three assists, and five blocked shots.  Caleb Kuhlman added 10 points including three of four free throws, and three rebounds.  Theo Maag and Eli Schmenk each pulled down seven rebounds.

 

Dailyn Swain led Columbus Africentric with 32 points including six of six free throws, 13 rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and seven steals.  Josiah Smith added six points on two three point baskets.  Preston Steele recorded four points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.

Rayvon Griffith led Cincinnati Taft with 17 points including five of six free throws, six rebounds, and two assists.  Brandon Cromer added 11 points and five rebounds.  Mekhi Elmore recorded 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists.  Kierain Granville-Britten chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Ramar Pryor led St. Vincent-St. Mary with 23 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and four steals.  Sencire Harris added 18 points, five rebounds, six assists, and seven steals.  Darius Stratford recorded 10 points and five rebounds.  Lance Hayes chipped in with eight points including six of eight free throws and six rebounds.

Devin Royal led Pickerington Central with 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.  6-1 Jr. Markell Johnson added 13 points including two  three point baskets, five rebounds, and two steals.  6-2 Jr. Rasheem Biles recorded 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Alex Styles chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary broke the game open in the third quarter on their way to a 63-35 victory over Gilmour Academy.  The Fighting Irish led 24-17 at halftime but a 16-0 lead in the third quarter settled the issue.  Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary shot 50.9% from the field including two of 10 from the three point line.  The Fighting Irish connected on seven of 11 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 15 Gilmour Academy turnovers.  Gilmour Academy shot 38.2% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lancers connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and score one point off three Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary turnovers.

 

Sencire Harris led Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary with 17 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.  Lance Hayes added 11 points including five of seven free throws, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  Ramar Pryor recorded 10 points and six rebounds.

Jaiden Cox-Holloway led Richmond Heights with 18 points including four three point baskets, five rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Detric Hearst Jr. who started in place of the injured Josiah Harris added 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.  De’erick  Barber recorded nine points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  London Maiden chipped in with six points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Dorian Jones added seven points, five rebounds, and six steals.

Jakobi Gillespie led Greeneville with 25 points including three three point baskets, six rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.  Reid Satterfield added 21 points including six three point baskets and three assists.  Terry Grove recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Adjatay Dabbs chipped in with six points and five assists.

Bearden coach Jeremy Parrott started the following lineup: 6-5 Sr. Walker Kyle, 6-3 Sr. Hayden Moseley, 6-6 Sr. Darian Bailey, 6-1 Sr. Elijah Bredwood, and 6-2 Jr. Jake Poole.  .  Dobyns Bennett coach Chris Poore countered with 6-4 Sr. Malachi Hale, 6-0 Sr. Carter Metz, 6-4 Sr. Jack Browder, 5-8 Jr. Jonavan Gillespie, and 5-9 Jr. Brady Stump.

 

Dobyns Bennett defeated Bearden 69-60 in overtime.  There were four ties in this game.  Dobyns Bennett led 39-24 after three quarters but Bearden outscored the Indians 28-13 in the fourth quarter to knot the score at the end of regulation.  Bearden lost three players (Elijah Bredwood, Darian Bailey, and Hayden Moseley) via the foul route.  Dobyns Bennett shot 41.3% from the field including six of 16 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 25 of 34 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 13 Bearden turnovers.  Bearden shot 33.9% from the field including five of 26 from beyond the arc.  The Bulldogs connected on 13 of 18 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Dobyns Bennett turnovers.

The score was tied nine times and there were nine lead changes in this game.  Metamora’s Zack Schroeder fouled out with 2:58 remaining in the second overtime.  Sacred Heart Griffin shot 40% from the field including one of seven from the three point line.  The Cyclones connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 13 Metamora turnovers.  Metamora shot 47.4% from the field including four of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Redbirds connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored four points off nine Sacred Heart Griffin turnovers.

 

Zack Hawkinson led Sacred Heart Griffin with 27 points including seven of nine free throws, and 13 rebounds.  Jake Hamilton added nine points and four rebounds.  Keshon Singleton recorded nine points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Megan Weakley led WCH with 16 points including four three point baskets and two rebounds.  Meghan Mayotte added 14 points including six of six free throws, six rebounds, three blocked shots, and three steals.  Jaeda Tagoe recorded eight points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, four assists, and two steals.  Blessing King added six points, 12 rebounds, three assists, four blocked shots, and two steals.

Thornville Sheridan defeated Norton 68-60 in overtime.  The second overtime ended in confusion as Morton’s Bailey Shutsa hit a 40 foot shot late for the apparent win but it was determined the shot came after the buzzer and the teams went to the third overtime where Thornville Sheridan outscored Norton 8-0 to finally earn the decision.  There were 11 ties and eight lead changes in this game.  Thornville Sheridan shot 37% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line.  The Generals connected on 21 of 27 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 18 Norton turnovers.  Norton shot 35% from the field including eight of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Panthers connected on 10 of 19 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 20 Thornville Sheridan turnovers.

 

Jamisyn Stinson led Thornville Sheridan with 21 points including five three point baskets, five rebounds, two blocked shots, and two steals.  Faith Stinson added 17 points including two three point baskets, five of six free throws, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and six blocked shots.  Halle Warner recorded 11 points including seven of eight free throws, and four rebounds.  Bailey Beckstedt chipped in with 10 points including six of eight free throws, two rebounds, and five assists.  5-11 So. Bullitt East coach Chris Stallings started the following lineup: 5-10 So. Anna Rogers, 5-8 Jr. Logan Ortega, 6-6 Sr. Gracie Merkle, 5-8 Jr. Lilly Reid, and 5-8 Sr. Emma Egan.  Southwestern coach Junior Molden countered with 5-11 Sr.Makayla Noritis, 5-10 Jr. Kaylee Young, 6-1 So. Payton Acey, 5-6 Fr. Kinsley Molden, and 5-7 Jr. Ayden Smiddy. (Unfortunately for Southwestern Makayla Noritis attempted to play but was limited to only 2 minutes because of the ankle injury sustained in the last game and the Warriors were without a key performer for this game).

 

Bullitt East utilized a dominating performance (27 points, 21 rebounds, 5 blocks) by Gracie Merkle to defeat Southwestern by the score of 66-42.  Bullitt East shot 45.8% from the field including one of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Chargers connected on 21 of 31 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 15 Southwestern turnovers.  Southwestern shot 26.3% from the field including six of 31 from beyond the arc.  The Warriors connected on six of 10 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 12 Bullitt East turnovers.  Bullitt East held a 38-8 advantage in points scored in the paint.

 

Gracie Merkle led Bullitt East with 27 points, 21 rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Emma Egan added 13 points including four of five free throws, and eight rebounds.  5-9 So. Jada Hughes recorded eight points including four of four free throws, two assists, and two blocked shots.

 

Kaylee Young led Southwestern with 11 points including two three point baskets, seven rebounds, and three steals.  Ayden Smiddy added 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists.  Kinsley Molden recorded nine points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, and two assists.

Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir started the following lineup: 6-0 Fr. ZaKiyah Johnson, 5-11 Sr. Josie Gilvin, 6-0 Sr. Alex Wolff, 5-7 Jr. Triniti Ralston, and 5-10 So. Reagan Bender.  George Rogers Clark coach Robbie Graham countered with 6-1 Fr. Ciara Byars, 5-11 Jr. Brianna Byars, 5-10 Sr. Tyra Flowers, 5-0 7th Grade Kennedy Stamper, and 5-8 Sr. Asja-Li Garrard.

 

Sacred Heart Academy trailed 24-22 at halftime but pulled away in the second half for a 59-40 victory over George Rogers Clark.  Sacred Hear Academy shot 46.7% from the field including two of eight from the three point line.  The Valkyries connected on 15 of 20 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 21 George Rogers Clark turnovers.  George Rogers Clark shot 38.2% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored seven points off nine Sacred Heart turnovers.

 

Triniti Ralston led Sacred Heart Academy with 22 points including six of seven free throws, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  ZaKiyah Johnson added 18 points including two three point baskets, six of six free throws, five rebounds, and two blocked shots. 

 

Brianna Byars led George Rogers Clark with 13 points, three rebounds, and two assists.  Ciara Byars added seven points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Tyra Flowers recorded seven points, three rebounds, and two assists.  Kennedy Stamper chipped in with seven points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, and three assists.

Bowling Green coach Calvin Head started the following lineup: 5-11 Jr. Meadow Tisdale, 5-10 Jr. Saniyah Shelton, 5-11 Sr. LynKaylah James, 5-3 Sr. Emma Huskey, and 5-8 Jr. Tanaya Bailey.  Cooper coach Justin Holthaus connected on 6-0 So. Logan Luebbers-Palmer, 5-10 So. Liz Freihofer, 6-2 Jr. Whitney Lind, 5-5 Sr. Jessee  Luebbers-Palmer, and 5-8 Jr. Kay Freihofer.

 

Cooper defeated Bowling Green 55-47 in a game in which both teams combined for 67 free throws and were whistled for 43 fouls.  Bowling Green lost three starters (LynKaylah James, Meadow Tisdale, and Tanaya Bailey).  Cooper shot 41.7% from the field including two of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Jaguars connected on 23 of 35 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 13 Bowling Green turnovers.  Bowling Green shot 38.2% from the field including one of nine from beyond the arc.  The Purples connected on 20 of 32 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 14 Cooper turnovers.

 

Liz Freihofer led Cooper with 20 points including 20 points including six of six from the field, eight of nine from the free throw line, four rebounds, and three assists.  Whitney Lind added 19 points including eight of 14 free throws, and seven rebounds.  Kay Freihofer recorded 11 points and five rebounds.

 

Tanaya Bailey led Bowling Green with 17 points including five of seven free throws.  LynKaylah James added 11 points and seven rebounds.  Meadow Tisdale recorded seven points, six rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots..  Saniyah Shelton added six points, nine rebounds, and two steals.

Bullitt East outscored Meade County 20-9 in the first quarter on their way to a 62-47 victor over the Lady Waves.  Bullitt East shot 60% from the field including two of four from the three point line.  The Lady Chargers connected on 12 of 33 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored seven points off nine Meade County turnovers.  Meade County shot 34% from the field including seven of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Waves connected on eight of 10 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored four points off eight Bullitt East turnovers.  Bullitt East held a 44-6 advantage in points in the paint.

 

Gracie Merkle led Bullitt East with 34 points, 11 rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals.  Lilly Reid added 12 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, and five assists.  Emma Egan recorded seven points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.
