Covington Catholic shocked the Bluegrass with a 31-28 upset victory over Boyle County; a team that by many was regarded to be the top team in the state regardless of class. The Colonels were able to run valuable minutes off the clock and slow down the high octane Rebel defense. Boyle County was also hampered by the loss of star Demauriah Brown who left the game with an injury in the first quarter. Despite all this Boyle County led by Montavin Quisenberry took a 28-24 lead until Owen Pitzer scored on a two yard run and Ryan Urti tacked on the extra point to give Covington Catholic a 31-28 lead with 5:24 left in the game. However ther game was not over as Boyle County marched down the field and Montavin Quisenberry went from inside the 20 yard line to the one before fumbling the ball into the end zone resulting in a touchback to give Covington Catholic the ball back with a little more than two minutes left on the clock. The Colonels buoyed by a long run by QB Cash Harney was able to run out the clock and earn the victory. Covington Catholic recorded 452 yards with zero turnovers while Boyle County recorded 302 yards and one turnover.

Cash Harney led Covington Catholic’s ground game with 234 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. Dylan Gaise carried the ball nine times for 85 yards. Andrew Bessler recorded 25 yards on six carries and Owen Pitzer ran for one touchdown. Cash Harney completed three of four passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. Oliver Link caught one pass for 80 yards and a touchdown and Dylan Gaiser added two receptions for 18 yards. Owen Pitzer led the defense with five solo and one assisted tackles. Nicholas Krallman added three solo and one assisted tackles. Cash Harney, Tate Kruer, and Jackson Payne each recorded three solo tackles and Cash Harney recovered a fumble.

Montavin Quisenberry led Boyle County’s ground game with 241 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Quisenberry also scored on an 85 yard kickoff return. Baylor Murphy completed three of four passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. Seneca Driver caught one pass for 22 yards and a touchdown. Jaysia Richards led the defense with 10 solo and one assisted tackles. Seneca Driver added six solo and one assisted tackles. Clifton Yocum recorded five solo and two assisted tackles.
