Paul McCartney Discussion Page
Welcome to my Paul McCartney discussion page. This page is, of course, dedicated
to the underrated driving force behind the Beatles, James Paul McCartney. I hope
to keep this page interesting and informative and I welcome your suggestions about
what you'd like to see. I'm kicking things off with my personal list of the top dozen
McCartney solo albums; drop me a line and let me know what you think. I like to
hear from fellow Macca fans. You can E-mail me or sign my guestbook from
the main page. Enjoy!
My 12 Favorite McCartney Albums
- #1. Band on the Run- Hard to dispute popular opinion on this one. A well-rounded, complete masterpiece. Best track: Band on the Run
- #2. Ram- Simply put, a fabulous record. Paul is at his experimental best on this one. Best track: Back Seat of My Car
- #3. Red Rose Speedway- Am I missing something? This album constantly receives poor reviews, but I find it melodic and charming. Best track: My Love
- #4. McCartney- This homspun little gem launched Paul's solo career. Yes, that's Macca on every instrument. Best track: Maybe I'm Amazed
- #5. Venus and Mars- This record has never really struck a chord with me, but the individual cuts are of undeniable quality. Best track: Magneto and Titanium Man
- #6. Back to the Egg- A record that, for me, is greater than the sum of its parts. It has that intangible something. Best track: Arrow Through Me
- #7. Flaming Pie- Paul proves his resilience beyond any doubt. From rockers to ballads, a fine compilation. Best track: The World Tonight
- #8. London Town- This is a pretty good album, a little heavy on the Denny Laine for my taste. Best track: Cafe on the Left Bank
- #9. Wings at the Speed of Sound- This is a strange record in my mind, in that some of it is downright unlistenable by McCartney standards and yet the few high moments are extremely pleasant. Best track: Let'em In
- #10. Wings Wild Life- Likely the worst of Paul's 70's fare. Never mind, it still bears repeated listening. Best track: Some People Never Know
- #11. Flowers in the Dirt- The high-water mark for Macca during the 80's. Nothing on this album really grabs me, but almost all of the cuts are solid. Best track: Put it There
- #12. Tug of War- This one is practically ruined by cameos from Carl Perkins and Stevie Wonder. Paul manages to salvage it, however, with a few nice numbers. Best track: Dress Me Up as a Robber
