What is a Soldier of Christ?
One who endures hardships. Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2Timothy 2:3. One who does not entagle himself with this life. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 2Timothy 2:4.
What are some of the characteristics of a good soldier of Christ? Things that make a good soldier of Christ different from the world. 1. They are believers. John 1:12-But as many as received him, to them ga e he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. 2. They are faithful. 1Corinthians 4:2-Moreover it is required in stewards,that a man be found faithful. 3. They are obedient. 1Peter 1:14-As obedient childern,not fashioning yourselfs according to the former lusts in your ignorance. 4. They are spiritual minded,not carnel minded. Romans 8:4-6-That the righteousness of the law mignt be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 5. They are workers for Christ. 2Timothy 2:15-Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 6.They are ready. 2Timothy 4:2-Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 7. They are watchful. Matthew 24:42-Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 8. They are fruitful. Matthew 7:17-Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
How does Christ say we willl know his soldiers? Matthew 7:16-Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
What are the characteristics of one who is not a soldier of Christ? 1. Worldly, carnal minded. Romans 8:7-Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither inded can be. 2. They are disobedient. Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unot every good work reprobate. 3. They will not except those things of the scriptures. 2Timothy 4:3-4-For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. 4. They are enemies of God. James 4:4- Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
