**August 31, 1989**
I leaned on my second floor window as I saw Brian walk into his room. “So, Brian how was your first day of being a freshman?” I asked him trying to hide my laughter.
“Shut up. Just because I repeated a grade doesn’t mean you’re smarter than me.” Brian glared with a sparkle in his eye.
“You still didn’t answer my question.”
“Well, it sucked. I met no of my friends, I didn’t make the basketball team and people made fun of me, ‘cause I repeated a grade.” He sighed. “How was your first day?”
“Well not as bad as yours. Let me see… my volleyball career has been demolished, my best friend deserted me to be part of the popular crowd, and… that’s about it.”
“Wanna know what?”
“What?”
“I hate school, and every part of it!” Brian waved his hands in the air from the frustration.
“I couldn’t have said it better. Just one thing though…”
“What?”
“We still have ‘bout 200 or more days of this retched job till summer when we need to find a real job.”
“That’s what we get for growing up!” Brian laughed out but stopped after a second. “Forget about waiting till summer for a job, I got a call back last night. I start working at Long John Silver’s next Monday…”
I couldn’t stop laughing. “Long… John… Silver’s? You’ve gotta be jokin’!” I managed.
