***An hour later***
Stephanie sat nervously on the couch, fidgeting with the hem of her tee-shirt while Kevin rested his hand over her squirming ones. A loud bang and the door made Stephanie leap from her spot and rush to the door.
"Nick, is everything okay? You had me worried to death with your call? What’s wrong?" She asked hurriedly, allowing him into the apartment. Nick remained silent, staring at Kevin for a moment, then hugging Stephanie’s slender figure.
"I hate to do this to you, Babe, but I have to." He whispered into her mass of black tresses.
"Do what? Nick, what did you want to tell me?" She asked, pulling back from the hug and pulling him over to the couch where Kevin sat. They both dropped onto the red sofa, waiting for an answer.
"Stephanie, Kevin will be very upset with me for telling you, but he should have done it himself. Remember when you and he had that fight? Well that night, he went to Kristen’s and they…"
"That’s enough Nick, I certainly don’t need you to tell her what I did I would have told her in good time." Kevin cut him off, only to be silenced by Stephanie.
"Tell me what? Nick… Kev…" She started, her eyes darting between the two men.
"He slept with Kristen the night you two had that fight… the night you came to me." Nick stated, meeting Kevin’s deathly emerald glare.
Stephanie turned to Kevin, tears on the brink of release, staring at him hopefully.
"Kevy, tell me it’s not true… is it true?" Her voice was trembling uncontrollable as she tried to meet his ashamed eyes.
"Baby, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for it to happen. It’s just I was upset and wanted someone to talk to. I’m so sorry… Baby girl, please, I’m sorry." Kevin stuttered, feeling his heart break as the woman he loved broke into tears.
"But you said you loved me… you told me…" She barely got out. She suddenly stood up from the couch. "How could either one of you do this to me? You sleep with your EX-GIRLFRIEND on the night you try to accuse me of having an affair with Brian…" She pointed her index finger at Kevin, then moved her gaze to Nick, "And you, telling me this when you know what would happen, I love you dearly Nick, but no more than a close friend. I want you both out of my home NOW!" Stephanie shouted, walking away from them both and running down to her bedroom. She slammed the door just as the blond and black haired man reached out to stop her. She locked the door and collapsed to her bed in tears.
"Baby, please, open the door. I’m so sorry, I love you so much. Please open the door." She heard Kevin mutter through the door.
"Go away. Leave right now, or I’m gonna call the police and they’ll escort you out…" Stephanie shouted back, burying her face in her pillow. She drew back abruptly. ‘It smells like Kevin.’ She threw the pillow off the bed and stared up at the white ceiling as both Nick and Kevin tried to get her to open the door. She blocked them out completely with the sound of her heart breaking within her chest.
***With Nick and Kevin***
"Great job, Nick. I’ve lost the only thing worth living for. And it’s all because of you! You son of bitch!" Kevin screamed in Nick sorrowful face.
"Hey, man, I wasn’t the one to go fuck my ex-girlfriend, while my girlfriend was off somewhere crying her eyes out. I don’t understand why she was so heart-broken over you. All you ever did was make her cry! I did her a favor. And you wanna know something else? I kissed her, and she kissed me back. How does that feel Kev?" Nick was cut off with a painful punch across his jaw. Kevin grabbed him by the throat and shoved him against the wall.
"I will never forgive you for this. You say you love her so much, then you do all this. She will never run to you for anything again, I hope you realize that." Kevin released him and walked away, out of the apartment.
Nick let Kevin’s words sink in and realized what a mistake he made. He hurried to Stephanie’s bedroom door again.
"Steph, baby, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything. I’m so sorry. Please let me in. I hate to hear you crying…" He said through the door, tapping on it softly.
"Just go away. Please just go away." Nick heard Stephanie’s sobbing whisper. He felt his heart drop and trudged from the apartment.
***In the Bedroom***
Stephanie continued to sob for another hour before being able to gain some composure. She sat up and grabbed her phone, punching in the number of her dearest friend and waited for him to pick up.
"Mmm, yeah, hello?" A smooth, southern-drawn voice muttered tiredly.
"Bri, sorry to wake you but…" Stephanie whimpered into the phone, stopping mid-sentence, coughing to clear the soreness in her throat.
"What’s with the wake up call, Babe?" Brian asked, his voice full of concern.
"Please, can you come over? I need you here. Please."
"Of course. I’ll be right over. Is it something about Kevin?" Brian asked, obviously struggling to get his jeans on in the dark.
"Yes, I’ll explain everything, just please come over." She pleaded, sniffling softly, loosing her voice from all her crying.
"Okay, I’m on my way. Let me just tell Leigh where I’m going. Bye Babe. I’ll be there soon." Brian yawned again.
"Thanks B, see ya soon." Stephanie hung up the phone and collapsed back onto the bed.
***At Brian’s House***
"Hey, Leigh… Honey I gotta run over to Stephanie’s for a little while." Brian shook his girlfriend slightly.
"Is everything okay?" She muttered sleepily.
"I don’t know. I’ll be home soon. Bye Babe." He smiled, kissing her blond head and leaving the bedroom. He hopped into his red Beemer and headed for Stephanie’s apartment.
***At Stephanie’s Apartment***
Brian found the front door unlocked and the apartment dark.
"Steph, baby girl, I’m here. Where are you at Honey?" he called out, only to be greeted silence. He stumbled through the dark until he found the hallway that lead to the main bedroom. Her room door was shut and locked securely, worrying Brian immensely. He knocked lightly at first then harder.
"Stephanie, baby, open the door. It’s Brian… What happened…" The door opened to the sound of his warm voice, revealing Stephanie, clad in only an over-sized tee-shirt. She didn’t say anything, just wrapped her arms tightly around his shoulders and collapsed against him.
"Baby, what’s wrong? You’ve been crying, please tell me what’s the matter…" he soothed her quietly, patting her hair and rubbing small circles on her back.
"Nick and Kevin…" She managed to get out in a hoarse whisper. She pulled back a little and looked up at him. "Did you know, what Kev did the night we fought?"
"No, he was seriously depressed the next day. I’ve never seen someone so torn up, but who could blame him, you’re like the light of his life. I’m seriously surprised he didn’t try to commit suicide while we were on tour. All he did was record your soap opera and watch them over and over again." Brian paused and noticed her pained look and hugged her again. "Let’s go lay down, and don’t try to talk, you’ll just hurt your voice even more."
Stephanie nodded and they both settled on her bed, her curled up against him and Brian just staring up at the ceiling.
‘What happened that night? Come on someone told you. It was something about Kristen… Shit, Kev stayed there, but what does Nick have to do with it?’ Brian conversed in his mind, glancing down at Stephanie to find her sleeping, using his stomach as her pillow. He pulled out his cell phone and dialed in a number.
"Hello?" a feminine voice asked.
"Hey Trease, is Bone there? I gotta a situation that I think he could help with."
"Yeah, hang tight B, I’ll pull his scrawny ass out of the shower…" Theresa sat the phone down and got Aj from the bathroom.
"Hey B-Rok, what’s up?" Aj raspy voice picked up the phone.
"J, I think we have a crisis. Can you come to Steph’s. I’m here and all I know is something happened between her, Kevin, and Nick. I need some help from someone who kinda knows some of the stuff that’s going on…"
"Shit! Yeah man, I’ll be right over, I’ll explain it all when I get there. See ya Bri. Bye." Aj hung up the phone.
Brian hung up as well and felt Stephanie move a little. She situated herself with her head resting on Brian’s chest and hugged him tightly.
"Kevvy…" She murmured softly, burying her face in his UK sweatshirt. Brian just stroked her hair and waited for Aj.
