On February 18, 1999, a list was formed by a group of six like minded women, who felt a strong and vital connection to the Amazon Mystique and the affiliated Goddess beliefs. Artemis is, of course, our Goddess Choice in all her beautiful phases or faces. This list is called Spirit Amazon.

The Spirit Amazon List is made up of a wide variety of ages, opinions and experiences. Because of the variety of opinions, the list is limited to a minimum age requirement of 18 yrs. Because there were already a few younger members on the list and in the spirit of the Amazon ways, the SA Council Members decided to launch a sublist for the younger tribe members. Thus Amazon Dawn was born.

On August 2nd 2000, Lyssa, Elder on the Spirit Amazon Tribal Council, asked the tribe for help in search of a name for the sublist. The name was to reflect the true essence of the list and was to stay away from the usual labels, like junior, youngsters, teen, or children. The group was still Amazon no matter what and they didn't want the younger members to feel slighted. The idea was to give them a place where they can feel comfortable being themselves, yet still feel every bit included with the tribal life of Spirit Amazon. The overall goal was to come up with a name the younger sisters and brothers would be proud of.

The tribe jumped to the task and many ideas were thrown onto the floor such as: White Wolves, Magick clan, Mystical Warriors, Moon Magick, Lighting Magick, Tigers, Eagles, Amazons' of Thunder, Amazon Soul, Amazon Heart, Artemis' Arrows, Artemis' Cubs, Young Spirit, Amazon Hope, Amazon Pack, Amazon High, Amazon 90210, and Spirit Amazon: The Next Generation. At one point, there was a debate between "Amazon Soul" and "Amazon Heart". One tribe member said: "After most of us know that our children (birth or not) are our hearts", and thus the name to consider is Amazon Heart. Another tribe member liked "Amazon Soul" better because she thought youths were the "soul" of the tribe. There was some disagreement, another tribe member saying: "Youths were the "heart" of the tribe and all of the members as a *whole* were the "soul" of the tribe. Another suggestion came from two tribe members who suggested "Amazon Portal" : "we were thinking of the Portal as being the entrance to the tribe, an initiation of sorts or maybe a rite of passage, for our youngest members. The first place you come to once you enter a building is a vestibule, and that's a place to take stock and pull everything together before moving forward."

In the end, it all came down to: Amazon White Wolves, Amazon Soul, Amazon Heart, Amazon Dawn, Amazon's of Thunder, and Artemis' Arrows. A poll was organized and a week later, Amazon Dawn was born. Dawn is associated with youth (The Maiden aspect of the Triple Goddess) and thus it made for a perfect match. Also, it invites the feeling of the future of the Tribe through the younger sisters and brothers.
