One Room School

This Is where I went to school at Globe, on east Tygart, and oh what memories. The school Is gone now but the memories linger on,as my thoughts wander back to days long ago. To the one room school that I used to know.the pot-bellied stove In the middle of the floor.

A dipper and water bucket sitting by the door. What times we had when recess came!!!!!We'd play red rover or some other game. But whatever we done we sure had fun. Maybe we'd get two turns or maybe we'd get none.

When the bell rang at noon, we were set free. we ran with our lunch bag to sit beneath a tree. We had nothing fancy, nothing bought from the store. But we had biscuits and jelly galore.

When Friday came we would have a spelling bee. We were all excited, planning to win you see. We had walked three miles to school. And were thankful as could be.

But things changed as we grew older. We didn't walk to school anymore. A little wooden covered station wagon picked us up. That helped as It grew colder.

Now the kids drive to school as they feel, the big yellow buses, are not good enough. All this seems unreal, they really don't know what they missed back when I was young.OR DO THEY?I WONDER!This was 1950
