Chapter 12~ Things Can't Get Any Better

"Marissa?" I heard a voice say from the doorway. I opened my eyes and noticed Kennedy standing there with two teddy bears. One with a blue shirt and one with a pink shirt. "Ken!" I said, sitting up. She came over and gave me a hug. "Where's Nick?" she asked, sitting down on the bed. "He had to go to the studio for a little while. Where's Brian?" I asked, peering around her, but seeing nothing. "Downstairs with Nicky," she answered, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "Brian and Madison are sleeping," I informed her, looking at the bears. Just then I heard a cry through the baby nomitor. "I spoke too soon," I said. We both laughed and I got up and we went into the nursery. I peered into my baby boy's crib and took his tiny hand in mine. "Shhh, baby, Mommy's here," I said, picking him up. Kennedy went to Madison's crib and picked her up. "Marissa, I can't believe they're a month old already!" she said, rubbing Madison's back. "Me either!" I said. We went downstairs and I heard some banging outside. Kennedy and I looked at each other and went out on my back deck. Brian had Nicky on his shoulders and was bouncing a basketball. "Brian! Be careful!" Kennedy yelled when she saw Nicky on Brian's shoulders. He turned around and Nicky's face lit up. "Mommy!" he exclaimed. Brian took Nicky off his shouldes and set him down. Nicky ran over to Kennedy and tugged on her shorts. "Mommy, I wan see baby," he stuttered. She smiled and kneeled down to let Nicky see Madison. "Nicky, this is Madison. Can you say hi?" she asked. Nicky smiled and touched her nose. "Hi, Mahson," he said. I laughed and kneeled down, too. "This is Brian, Nicky," I said. "No! Bian is my daddy!" Nicky said laughing. I laughed and nodded. Brian came up and picked Nicky up. "When's Nick gettin home?" Brian asked. "Any minute now," I answered as I heard a car pull in our drive. About thrity seconds later Nick walked around the bakc and saw us all on the deck. He had a huge bag, a boquet of roses and a bottle of champaign in his hands. "Well, I guess this spoils the suprise!" he said, setting everything down on the table. He handed me the roses and kissed my nose. "Hi, baby!" he said, taking Brian from me and kissing his forehead. "Well, we should get going. I just wanted to bring the bears by for their one month birthday," Kennedy said. I nodded and gave her a hug. Brian hugged me and they left. "Hi, baby," he said, pulling me in for a kiss. "What's in the bag?" I asked, looking at the table. "Presents!" he answered, smiling. "For who?" I said, laughing. "You, Maddy, Brian, maybe me," he answered. "You?!" I laughed even more. "Well, I consider your present a present to me," he said, kissing me again. I heard the phone ring, so I handed Madison to Nick and went inside. "Hello?" I said. "Marissa?" my mom said. "Hi, Mom!" I said. She started talking, but I was suddenly distracted. I looked out the window onto the deck and saw Nick holding Brian in his left arm and Madison in his right arm. He was pointing out towards our boat and talking to them. I opened the window to listen to what he was saying. "See that boat right there? That's what I took your Mom out on for our first date. It was so romantic. Your mom is one gorgeous girl, ya know? I couldn't live without her, and I'm glad she gave you guys to me," he said. I felt tears welling up in my eyes and I couldn't breathe. "Marissa?" I heard my mom say. "Yeah, Mom? I'm sorry, can I call you back? Thanks. I love you too," I said and hung up. I stood there and listened to Nick talk to the twins some more. "I can't believe you two are already a month old. Pretty soon, Brian, you'll be six feet tall and have girls calling us all the time, and Maddy, you'll probably end up being a model, but you can't date until you're 30. Brian, I'm making you promise me now that you'll play basketball. No football stuff," he said. That made me laugh, and Nick turned around and smiled at me. I walked out onto the deck and rested my head on his shoulder. "Nick, can things get any better?" I asked. He turned me around and kissed me. "No," he answered.
