Chapter 5~ I'll Miss You

"Mare, I'm leaving!" Nick called to me from the foyer. I walked out of the kitchen and brushed my hands off on my jeans. "Already?" I asked, pouting. "Marissa, it's four thirty. If we don't leave now we'll miss the flight!" he answered, kissing my nose. He started to back away, but I put my hand behind his neck and pulled him back in. It was just getting good, when someone coughed from the open front door. "Aww, the newleyweds are so cute!" Kennedy said in a high-pitched voice, and batting her eyelashes. Brian stood behind her with his arms around her waist and laughed. Nick turned around to face them "Well, yeah, I mean, we didn't even get married a week ago and I'm already leaving!" he said, taking my hand. Brian and Kennedy were here because Brian was taking Nick to the airport, and Kennedy was staying with me for three weeks, because Nick didn't want me to stay in our huge, new house alone. "That's true. Oh, I am sorry," Kennedy said, stepping inside. "Well, Nick, we should probably go," Brian said, nodding his head towards the driveway. Nick nodded and led me outside, following Brian and Kennedy. Nick puts his bags in the back of Brian's Jeep and shut the latch. Brian went over to the driver's side, and Kennedy went with him. I followed Nick to the passenger's side and he opened the door. He started to get in, but I grabbed his arm. "Ahem? And where do you think you are going?" I asked, wrapping my arms around his neck. "Well, I figured if I got in and then said good-bye, I wouldn't be so distracted and make us late," he answered, kissing me. We stood there for about three minutes, just kissing, when Brian layed on the horn. I must have jumped a mile, because Nick started laughing. "I think I have to REALLY leave," he said. I kissed him one last time. "I love you. You call me every day, you hear?" I said, shutting the door after he got in. He rolled down the window, and put his hand to my face. "I love you more. If you need anything, I mean it, you call me, no matter what time," he said. I nodded and reached up to take his hand. Brian started backing out of the driveway. Nick and I held on to each other until the very last possible second, when he was no longer in my reach. They drove away, and I started to cry. "Aww, sweetie, it'll be okay," Kennedy said, hugging me. "Oh, I know. I've never cried before! I guess I just love him so much," I said, wiping the tears from my eyes. "I know exactly how you feel," she said. "Hey, we haven't had a real 'girl talk' in forever! Let's go!" she said. I smiled and nodded, following her into my house. ______________________________________________________________________________ "Oh, that is so sweet!" I said, putting another spoonful of ice cream into my mouth. Kennedy and I had been talking about everything two girls can talk about for six hours! A pizza box and empty Pepsi bottles were on my coffee table, and we both had cartons of ice cream. She had just finished telling me how Brian asked her out before their first date. "So, we have to get to the good stuff," she said, setting down her carton of Rocky Road. "Like what?" I said laughing. "Like Nick," she answered. "Well, what do you want to know?" I asked. "Hmm, I don't know. I mean, he is my husband's best friend, I guess I just want to know more about him," she said. "Well, he is incredible. I don't know what I would do with out him," I said. "Marissa, we've been best friends for three years. Now come on. Is he, you know, good?" she asked. "Ken! What would Brian say if he heard you ask that!" I said, asking. "Like he would never ask Nick about you," she replied. "Kennedy, you are too silly," I said, getting up. I picked up the trash and took it into the kitchen. "Mare! You are no fun!" she said, running into the kitchen. "Okay, Kennedy. Yes, he is good. VERY good," I answered, glancing at her. She smiled, which made me laugh. "So what about Brian?" I asked. "He is amazing," she said, getting a dreamy look on her face, which made me laugh even harder. Then the phone rang. "Hello?" I managed to say. "Mare?" a voice said. "Nicky!" I screamed. "Woah, babe. What's so funny?" he asked after he realized I was laughing. "Kennedy. She's just too silly," I answered, ceasing my laughter. "Oh. I'm glad you two are having fun," he said. "Baby, what's wrong?" I said. "Nothing! I'm tired. We won't get to Germany for another four hours," he answered. "Are you on your cell?" I asked. "Uh-huh. What are you two doing?" he asked. "Just hanging out, I guess," I said. "Oh. Well, babe, this call is going to cost me a fortune. I was just calling to check on you," he replied. "Nicky, I'm 22. You don't have to check on me," I said, smiling at the thought of him looking out for me. "I know. But you know what?" he said. "What?" "You better miss me while I'm gone. You all better not go have a good ol time without me!" he said in a soft voice, although I knew he was semi-joking. "You know I will, baby. I miss you whenever you're not with me," I answered. "I'll miss you, too. I'll miss you so much it'll hurt," he answered. "You better go," I said. "Yeah. I love you, Mare." "I love you too, Nicky."
